Yep I've got no problem with IQ at 1200 but I'm way less picky than most. I'm still swooning that Sony has put 1200mm that I can actually carry in my hand.
This one SOOC (no denoise/no sharpening) besides the 1600 wide resize for this forum, a9+2.0TC+200600 for 1200mm

No denoising, no sharpening. Only resized to 1600 wide for the forum.

For a 2X on a zoom lens, this is incredible, and has me thinking about my present Nikon gear (D850 / 500 f/4E / 1.4III)

Colin like you I have ND850/D500/500PF/300PF/etc. and I'm packing for a 3 week trip north. No Nikon is going. Nothing against the Nikons but with all the Sonys going (A7Rii/A7Riii/a6400/a6300/a5100/RX100v/RX100vi) I can charge off one big USB battery brick. USB charging trumps everything else! How's that for decision making

Yes but remember the EVF....you looked like you were going to vomit when you looked through the A9 yesterday

I'm not super impressed by my own 1200mm shots...I found stopping down to f/16 made things better....but f/16? that is crazy and dust spots show up all over the place.

I kept forcing myself to try 1200mm yesterday in the backyard and they just seemed to lack that tack sharp look of the 840mm shots. I think one thing throwing me off is the catchlight rendering as it has some sort of aberration to it that appears less sharp than I'm used to. Also I think DOF issues come into play and a lot of shots are just that little bit off. f/16 improves both the catchlight and DOF problems...but again....f/16?

Yes, that's almost a deal-breaker right there. Perhaps the a9II will be better.

The 200-600mm is a superb performer alright and I would not hesitate to mount my 1.4X TC to it but I would use the 2X TC only as the last resort. If somehow possible and if the target is stationary and you have time to change or mount something to that lens, I would choose mounting my A7r III to that lens (plus the 1.4X TC) and let the cropping capability of that camera do the talking... Now, the A7r IV would come in even better .

But there is nothing wrong with that lens at 600mm though, even at wide open for tracking like here...

Awesome flight shots. Proving once again that at least with the A9, this lens has no issues with fast/small BIF. And even the 1.4TC doesn't hamper it too much.

Great telephoto compression in the front on engine shot. Great composition on the spools.
Good to see other activity with the 2-6.

Joshua, this is a winner, the 1/2000, you nailed it yet it seems the tracking of the subject blurred the clouds. WOW

Joshua has certainly sold a lot of 200-600s for Sony. The problem is most people, given the same gears, can't shoot like Joshua.

Six month old Great Horned Owl. Immediately before I grabbed the shot the young owl fluffed up its feathers and did a big shimmy. The white dots around the owl are bits of molting feathers that surrounded the young owl like a cloud for a few moments. A few months ago this guy/gal was nothing but a ball of fuzz. Has been fun watching it grow and mature.
