I'm jealous of all of the owl photos! I need to research about the owls in my area!
Good luck! I've got 5 species within 50 miles of the house and have only ever imaged the Barred on a couple of occasions. Unlike some species all of ours only come out at night.

Is it cheating if I go to our Audubon Raptor center for their photo? Haha

At this time of year it is the easiest time to find owls like Barred and Great-Horned. All you have to do is walk in the woods and listen for a ruckus from Robins or Crows or other birds. The smaller birds are very vocal towards raptors during nesting season. I've watched 20 crows surround an owl and squawk at it for hours. The owls really don't care and therefore it is easy to find them. In the past week I've woken up twice to the noise of ravens in my yard. Both times I was able to locate a Great Horned Owl in the small wooded area in my backyard...easy pickings!! Good Luck!

Just got the camera/lens yesterday so I haven't had much time to shoot with it. I have a photo blind setup in the backyard and of course nothing all that interesting comes by (Mourning Dove and a Chipmunk) when I want to test out the new combo. Should have more time to put them through their paces this weekend.
