Wanted to add to the image thread. Here is one of my first shots. Slightly cropped. I am so in love with the lens. The AF eye accuracy is splendid, just like it's brother the 105 1.4 art. It's rendering is beautiful. *edit* my bad about not resizing them

Still in love with this lens. It is super sharp but the OOF rendering is what makes it really special in my opinion. Also the weight is not a problem! I'm amazed by the fuss about this. Get a decent wrist strap and a gym membership. Anyway.... couple from yesterday:

What kind of flash setup do you have and for these images what flash settings did you use? They look incredible. Soft and beautiful on skin. 😊 I have a ad400 pro with two different glow beauty dishes. Learning flash still.

Ok so for lighting gear I use a Godox AD600B + a phottix Octtaluna 110cm.
- As a common rule for lighting : the bigger + the closer -> the softer.
- For women : short lighting placement -> more flattering than Rambrandt, split etc.
- Always light from above to avoid weird shadow patterns with the nose, but not too high to keep a catch light in the eyes.
- With a 35mm lens then, you can place your light really close to the model without being bothered. For example if you do a half body portrait oriented shot, you will stand right beside the softbox.
If you want more drama like me, then expose for your background to be darker to your taste.
I am lazy, I always do TTL with between +0.7EV and +2EV.

Interesting thanks for the info. In camera, do you normally shoot in manual mode or aperture priority? And what metering mode do you use when you expose for the background and use TTL on the godox? 😁 I havent shot much portraits at all on the sony compared to when i was on nikon. I think the part i struggle a bit is metering mode. For landscapes i do multi metering and that works pretty good. Always a bit of learning curve switching systems.

I always do a portrait session in manual mode, and use the basic metering mode as it will evaluate on the face with eye-AF.
I expose for background, then I shoot, if the model is correctly exposed I switch to manual with TCM function. Then I check if the background / model balance is on taste. If not I underexpose or overexpose the background and make the counter adjustment on the flash

Halloween photo with my daughter dressed as Poison Ivy
She wouldn't smile for me, she kept giving kiss poses so she could kiss me and kill me like Poison Ivy does to batman. Bit concerning for her to want to kill her parents and become a super villain at such a young age
