Thank you so very much, Rainer! She was strolling on the beach by herself while I was photographing sunset at the pier. Originally, I included her in my composition without her knowing but right after that, I asked her nicely whether she wouldn't mind posing for me and she obliged. And I took some 10 images of her. Here is another one of her including the pier in the background and the colors are more intense here. And, yes, I did send her a few images and she was happy with them.

If possible, I'd still like to know which ND (how many stops) would be the most versatile for everyday shooting outdoors in bright sunlight. Not looking for something to do water effects, etc, just to keep the shutter speed under 1/8000.

I don't use an ND filter, perhaps I should I don't know. 😀 FWIW, I use a 3 stop when shooting film.

My experience is that a 3 stop ND is generally enough with an f2 lens to get in the range of a mechanical shutter but also enough light transmission that you can leave the filter on during peak daylight hours.
Sunny 16 rule says at ISO 100 you need a 1/100 exposure at f/16, so 3 stops might just get you to 1/8000 at base ISO at f/1.2 But I bet at f1.2 you may need 4 or maybe even 6 stops at times.

As I mentioned somewhere else, I dislike filters for various reasons. If you see that the shutter speed of your setting goes higher than 1/1000, you can either switch to full mechanical or to silent shutter (full electronic) to minimize the effect. It is easier and for sure less expensive than getting a filter. Moreover, the filter may even degrade the IQ under certain circumstances. The clunky noise of the full mechanical or the silent shutter is differently enough to remind you to switch back to EFCS when the lighting conditions change or when you shoot something else. But I realize that to each his/her own and that YMMV.

Believe me, I'd rather not use one, but there were times when I was shooting in full sun wide open with my GM lenses and got the blinking 1/8000 in the EVF.

Yep, often no choice. On the RX1, I'd often bump up against the 1/2000 max shutter speed at f/2 with the leaf shutter.
With fast glass it is easy to bump up against 1/8000.
Sometimes I don't have an ND and just shoot wide open anyway and can often recover blown highlights enough in post to not ruin a wide open bright daylight shot at 1/8000.

I see that you're in Seattle...Vancouver here. I find the best 'filter' is known in these parts as 'winter'...I'm always amazed by how much light heavy cloud cover sucks up haha. When I had my RX1, I'd walk around on sunny days with a 2 stop B+W ND on. 62mm is the width of the barrel of the 35/2 on the RX1 so a 49-62 step up and the filter and it looked pretty nice. But I can imagine all those folks living in places where there is sun from November - April have to deal with stuff like this all the time...

The Sigma 35 1.2 came yesterday and I mounted it on the a7r iv. I will concur with what others have said - the lens feels very balanced. I'll be trying it out a bit this coming weekend.

Great example of the potential of this lens for full body shots with nice subject isolation. It looks like it really works for commercial/model work. Nice composition and posing and well chosen backgrounds.

These are really incredible pictures! I need to start shooting with mine. Just haven't had the chance yet! This lens with its super silent and fast eye AF is a dream to use, just wow.
