Would it be better to adopt Voigtländer E-Mount or M-Mount-Lenses?
Techart offers an E-Z-adapter which would even allow AF in case of the Batis25f2. I could also use the Voigtländer E 21f1.4.
With the upcoming Voigtländer M-Z-CloseFocus adapter or the already available Novoflex M-Z-adapter I could "only" use the Voigtländer M 21f1.8 on the wide angle side.
As for the Voigtländer 50f1.2 I have both options. But I don't want to use two different adapters. Therefore my options would be:
Using the E-Z-adapter: Voigtländer E 21f1.4 or Batis 25f2 + Voigtländer E 50f1.2
Using an M-Z-adapter: Voigtländer M 21f1.8 + Voigtländer M 50f1.2
Could anyone offer advice which of these options has advantage over the other?
As of yet I identified the following advantages:
E-Mount lenses: Use of faster 21mm or use of Batis25 with AF / In case of future switch to Sony I would just have to buy the camera and nothing else / maybe EXIF communication
M-mount lenses: More independent as I could keep the lenses even if I switched to Canon R or Panasonic S1 and I could use the 50f1.2 on a GX9 as a fast Portrait lens with perfect focal length for portraits.
I would recommend trying to choose a system and sticking with it if possible. Multiple system switches tend to end up eating a lot of time and costs. The Nikon Z and Sony FE systems each have their own set of advantages and I think you should choose based on what you value more. I’ve seen a lot of people try adapting m lenses, but it is a challenge due to the sensor cover glass on everything but M bodies (depending on the lens).

Hi folks I will upload some sample shots as soon as my internet gets up to speed , it is running in slow motion at the moment even by the standards of rural Scotland .
I got the TZE-01 a couple of weeks ago and have tested it on the following lenses for AF . 12-24g, 24-105g, 24mm GM,35mm ,55mm and 90mm macro. The 12-24 works very well though I have now sold it. My 24-105mm works pretty much i WIas good as on my Sony A7rIII. The 24mm Sony works ok though I use MF as a rule , the Samyang 35mm { which was not supposed to work anyway :-) } will AF fine but the aperture reading is all to pot. No problems with the 55mm . The 90mm macro { my main reason for getting the TZE-01 } works flawlessly in MF which I use anyway . AF is a bit hit or miss and I can't get it to work with focus stacking at all

the following lenses that are designed for the resolution of the A7riii, which means, the Z7 as well.
the lenses with * would be the most important in my view, as the others have S substitutes (albeit not 1.4 for 35/50).

so mainly, 24, 85, 135 sony GM lenses

24 35 50 85 135 are the primary primes
the 105 1.4E is a good substitute for the 85 gm and/or 135 gm, for portrait work.
however, it's not ideal for sport on any system.
the 135 1.8 GM is superb for anything you throw at it. however, this adapter is not ready for sports.
eventually, nikon S will be available for these focal lengths.
however, not for about 3 more years
I imagine 24 will come late 2019
135 will take another 2-3 years, hopefully sooner.

For me the biggest weakness is in macro . I have the 105mm vr macro and it is poorer than the Sony 90mm and both the voigtlander apo lanthar lenses. The 24mm F/1.4 gm is also a stand out. Though I would hopefully replace it with the upcoming 20mm F/1.8 { all being well} .

If you haven’t noticed Nikon switched the roadmap and the 24 f/1.8 is supposed to be coming this year and the 20 f/1.8 is scheduled for next year. So Nikon should soon have competition for the very nice GM 24 f/1.4.

Any thoughts on the CV 21/1.4 versus the Loxia 25? I know speed and focal length but I’m more curious about rendering and IQ. Love the Loxia but the 40/1.2 for example is a bit addictive. Thanks regardless.

I wish I could tell you more, but I am in the process of switching over. When I first got the Z7 I picked up a used Zeiss ZF 21 f/2.8 for it. That is still a lovely lens, but big. I do appreciate the FLE of that lens, however. Now that I can use Sony FE lenses and this CV 21 f/1.4 looks so nice I decided to sell both the Zeiss ZF 21 f/2.8 and the Loxia 21 f/2.8 and get the fast CV 21 f/1.4. Fred's tests convinced me, but I am in the processes of switching and don't have the CV 21 f/1.4 yet. I am also selling my CV 40 f/1.2 and my Loxia 50 f/2 and getting the new CV 50 f/1.2, which also looks like a lovely lens and just a big better than the CV 40. This will give me a kit with the CV 21 f/1.4, 7 Artisans 28 f/1.4, CV 50 f/1.2, and Olympus OM 100 f/2. I think I am really going to like that kit, but it is on the heavy side with all the fast glass.
Because of that I will also probably build a lighter kit that will include the Loxia 25, which is one of my favorite lenses. I love how it renders even close up. So, I don't think that lens is going anywhere. It will be interesting to compare the Loxia 25 and CV 21 f/1.4. I suspect they will have a pretty similar rendering, and size, speed, and focal length will be the big differences, but I am mostly reserving judgment until I get the two lenses side by side.

Thanks, look forward to your thoughts. I agree on the Lox 25, really like it’s rendering at all distances. Fred suggested the FLE of the 21/1.4 makes it equally good. I’m not a high speed or UWA junky but 21mm and 1.4 admittedly opens more creative possibilities than 25mm and 2.4. I’m also OCD so I’d rather have consistent lenses, but the L35, CV 40 and L85 doesn’t make for a poor trio either. Good times...

Here are a few with the Z7 and the Voigtlander 110 f/2.5 APO Macro. The lens is big, but it produces such lovely results. It is wonderful to be able to use it on the Z7.

The real gaping hole in the Z lineup is a high quality 16-35 2.8 that takes standard filters and is fast and well corrected enough for astro. I have no idea why Nikon did not make this a priority for the Zs, but having access to the sony 16-35 would be great.

Well Nikon does have a 14-24 f/2.8 S lens on its road map. We won't know until it comes out next year whether it will take standard filters and whether it will be corrected enough for astro, but one can have hope that it will. In the meantime, you might also want to look at the Zeiss Batis 18 f/2.8. It takes regular filters and is very well corrected.

I am waiting for the new 14-24. I have the current one right now for astro, where it is great. So I am pretty confident the new version will definitely be well enough corrected for astro and in all likelihood even better.
The design looks like a far less bulbous front element. But, the photos of the prototype still show no filter threads, and it is not clear if it could take a standard 100mm square system.
The lack of a modern 16-35 2.8 that takes filters has been a huge gap in Nikon's line for many years, in fact, since the 14-24 was introduced. I love this lens in many ways, but the 16-35 would be much more useful for filtered landscape, and even astro because you could use a light pollution filter.
The sony on the adapter would be an excellent option, and one less lens sale for Nikon.

Mine is the E mount on the Techart TZE-01. All in all, I love it and IQ wise it behaves very well on the Z.
Handling is perfect on the camera. The Z’s have better MF aides then Sony which make it even better.
The Voight has a physical aperture ring, so the ring on the lens works perfect BUT it doesn’t communicate the setting to the camera. You can set the camera to match the lens but it’s dependent on your Live View setting how aperture behaves so you need to understand how the camera works with exposure.
All in all, I’m a big fan.
