Just saw on another forum that Amazon UK has the Sony 35mm 1.8 for pre order for 442.81 GBP. I was able to preorder it to the US for total of $585.53 shipped.
Wow. I’d wanted a 35/1.8 for awhile, but have been managing just fine with my 35/2.8, have the Tam 17-28 on preorder, and worry my kit is getting a bit big. I sold my Sony85/1.8 after being happy with the bigger Samyang 85/1.4 and rarely using 85 for travel - only reason I’d have used the 1.8. My travel plan had become to do 17-28 plus FE55 for urban trips, perhaps with the Samyang 35/2.8 thrown in since it’s so light. When I won’t be doing more dedicated UWA, though, I think my CV21 is more than enough, so I’m tempted to pair that with the 35/1.8 at this great price and reacquire the 85/.18. I suppose 21/55 works well too for ultralight travel (70-300 added when no longer wanting to be ultralight but wanting more reach), but 35 is a nice FL to have on hand. So maybe I shouldn’t be too tempted by this 35 just yet. 35/1.8 would be nice for indoor family stuff, though. Decisions.

Thanks for this. Order placed. I assume this will get hit with some import duty though? Guess we’ll see.
Looked and couldn't find anything official (and there was a specific term for this) but he "duty free" mail limit was increased to $800 in 2014 or so. At least I'm pretty sure and I've ordered lenses for 400-700 from Japan without problems with correct values declared. So I hope you're good.
Edit: although... if the reason for the higher price in the US is tarrifs (not sure if that was the conclusion), those may still be assessed :/

Yea, worth a shot, they may not get assessed as it’s an import from the UK, not China 🤔
Hopefully I don't get crucified for this: I don't know if my vision is failing me recently, but has there been a single sample image from this lens that has been decently sharp at 1.8 or even 2.8? Maybe something is off with my viewing parameters, but the resolving power of this lens seems incredibly disappointing, aside from the CA issues. Increasingly confusing to me is the MANY observations from initial shooters that the lens is "impressively sharp".

I agree with you there, looking through the sample galleries posted earlier in this thread, the sharpness pales even to my "lowly" adapted Canon 40/2.8

The samples at lenstip didn't look very sharp but there was a disclaimer:
"All files are XFINE JPEG-s, with noise reduction set to off and minimum sharpening level (-5). All in-camera lens corrections has been turned off."
Hmm. I wonder if that works a little like (some) Lightroom sliders where 0 is neutral and negative values would do the opposite, ie soften here. Never tried.

Not sure about Sony, but Fuji's furthest negative value is simply a 0, Sony might be the same way, although I don't know many folks that shoot Sony in JPEG so I can't be sure

Perhaps the range for Creative Stye's contrast, sharpness and saturation has increased for the A7R4. On my A7R3, it goes from -3 to +3.
If I set sharpening to "-3", jpegs will look very soft. With "-5" I don't think we can judge how sharp a lens is.
The best idea would be to post the original RAW files.

-5 sharpness? It seems like the disclaimer should read, We are purposely trying to dissuade any interest in this lens. I also think it's a little crazy to turn off auto corrections on a lens of this class. You know there are going to be flaws. I'd rather see what they've cooked up to correct them and make my post-processing life easier.

The cheapest EU price was €699 inc. VAT. Amazon UK just reduced price to: £531. It works out for me at: €630 incl. delivery charge to Ireland. Pre-ordered today. Price is too good to pass. If i don't like lens i will simply return it. I don't expect miracles at that price. 35 1.8 might be good companion to my 55 1.8 though.

Duty doesn't apply until the cost (including shipping) is $800, I think. It's been a while since I have purchased a lens from the UK. The exchange rate is favorable at the moment.

Add it to your cart and checkout. The price should decrease at checkout once you say you're shipping it to US.
I suspect that import duties will be added to this purchase as well, slight delay in delivery, etc. Still $583, or whatever it might be, is cheaper than $748 + taxes from B&H...

Duties are added when the lens is shipped, not during the checkout process. The shipper, e.g. UPS, is the entity that tacks on and collects the funds. A dispute with the shipper over the application of duties will definitely slow down the process. My purchases from the UK (Robert White) have been shipped and delivered pretty quickly; certainly faster than some vendors in the USA.

I have never been happy with as Sony lens that it not G or GM, so I passed on this one. I really wish Sony would have got serious and made a 35mm G or GM lens to go along with the excellent 24mm GM.
