A lot of 35mm f/1.4 ZA copies popping up for sale. I bought mine a couple of months ago with a 2019 production date and seems super sharp and not de-centered. Other than the weight compromise, I can’t imagine stepping down to the new Sony. I get why so many people skipped the ZA, but with a great copy, maybe some solid used ones will find their way into people's bags at comparable prices!

Honeymoon stage IMO, see where you are in two years when these lenses are highly available.

I love the 35 ZA...rendering is beautiful.

That size though....I love it for paid work, not so much for personal shooting because I don't enjoy lugging it around.

I picked up the FE 35 1.8 for personal shooting. If its renders nicely enough for paid shooting, I'll probably sell the 35ZA

Don't know if I can contain my excitement for this.

I think I should wait to see some reviews... or maybe not... I did just buy a CV40 but I suppose I could sell it in August?

I posted this on the poll thread but thought I'd mention it here...maybe it has already been discussed?

I'd suggest anyone buying this lens in the US may want to look into picking it up in Canada. I'm not sure what is up with the pricing on this but in US it is $749 and in Canada it is $799....6.6% difference....compare that to the 200-600 release a few weeks ago that saw the more typical 30% difference in line with exchange rates.

Probably the 200-600 is made in Japan while this is made in China.

Anyone annoyed that all the Sony none G/GM primes have different filter size?

So now we have fast, light, well corrected, but not too well corrected, sharp up close, rendering at middle distance,, no bokeh balls, no ctas eyes, no onion highlights, no "nervous" bokeh, no coma for star shots and same filter size throughout line. Oh, and weather sealed. Am I missing anything

I'd like for all the lenses to have the same price as the current 28mm f/2 price. You know, for consistency.

I'm quite torn about this lens.

If I didn't have a 35mm prime already, this would be a no brainer. But the problem is, I got sick of waiting and maybe 3 months ago I got the 35mm Art in E mount.

I managed to get it on sale for $799 AUD which is obviously a huge bargain considering it averages at around $1100 AUD. I suspect this lens will be around $1100 AUD as well but I could probably get decent resale value on my Art if I do choose to go that route.

When I used to have my Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS, I was more than happy with the lens and I felt that f/2 was good enough but always wanted something more. I think f/1.8 would be enough to satisfy my bokeh cravings in exchange for the portability.

Yes, Sony took too long to deliver a 35/2 (or f/1.8) lens and I think it's only here now because of the pressure they got from other brands. Many believe they didn't want to impact RX1RII sales but IMO this new Sony 35/1.8 does not even compete with it in overall system size, IQ or rendering...
The lack of a decent native 35/2 AF forced Sony shooters to find faster alternatives with AF and many are happy with what they got right now. If the new FE 35/1.8 were priced $200 cheaper, it would be a different story.

Looks like the price of the lens has been affected by US tariffs. It is $610 USD in Canada, which seems more in line with what it should be.

Given what we are seeing with the CAD price, it’s actually closer to a $599 USD lens which is a major game changer in a non-tariff US.

Something going in favor of the Sony 35/1.8 is that it's a close-focus lens.

The Sony actually focuses closer than the Batis 40/2 CF (0.22m vs 0.24m) although the latter has a slightly higher mag. (0.3x vs 0.24x)

Hopefully I'm getting these specs correctly.
