Even if they innovate (?), they had been less forthcoming to admit to design flaws in their cameras. Not a reliable brand.

I really with their 1" line had come out. That 18-50 version would have been sweet.

Sorry but for what I shoot and how I shoot I prefer the Nikon body's feature set (I actually prefer the Sony ergonomics.) I had a A7III for 6 months and liked but didn't love it. I definitely prefer the Z6 to it, and with the TZE-01 out now it's frankly a better option for manual focus glass, as you can get accurate focus confirmation without peaking or magnification that lets you frame and focus faster.

As too lenses, Nikon got the compromise of speed, size and quality right (for me). I want good IQ, not too large and doesn't have to be too fast. This might sway that decision as the 35 is kinda my sweet spot, but Sony shouldn't have let me go in the first place, not sure it's enough now. If it's 85/1.8 IQ or close it'll be a good contender and price isn't shocking. Anyway I'm following it and will be looking forward to Fred & Guy's reviews among others.

Otherwise, @RealVivek come on man! That's is as fair a statement as Nikon users claiming an A7III is a Game Boy, not a camera.

If they do, good for them! They know best because they shoot with the best.

I started my digital photography with Nikon and ever since G1 (mirrorless) switched to mirrorless. No loss at all.

Photos look great coming from this lens. I really think Sony would sell an insane amount of copies if it was in the 500-600 range

It's hard for me to get excited about this lens. It's something that should have been out awhile ago and most have their 35mm lens needs filled

I'm very happy with my Nikon Z6 and native Z 35mm 1.8S. I think this is the lens that any camera manufactures should release first, follow with 50 and 85.

I think $750 is not too bad. Nikon Z system has their 35mm 1.8S for $800.

I don't think its terrible either, but I think if it was around that price range it would sell way more.

Did I miss an actual release date in here somewhere?

I see a pre-order date but not an expected ship date (assuming it's not backordered forever like the 24GM).

As suspected, LoCA correction won't be a strength but I don't dislike the rendering so far.

Another sample of CA, at f/11:

EDIT: This is lateral CA, which doesn't go away when stopping down and is easier to fix, as opposed to longitudinal CA which was shown earlier. Longitudinal is a essentially a blur of different wavelengths and harder to fix, while lateral is a just a misalignment of colors (you can see purple on one side, teal on the other, vs purple all around)

Kinda gnarly, but then how well will in body and/or ACR correct it?

That's lateral CA which does not go away even at f/11.

I don't necessarily know what I'm looking for web samples on my mobile phone, but this lens doesn't do it for me.

I'd rather miss shots with my 40/1.2, lug around a 35/1.4, swing around a 35/2.8, or save for a RX1RII.

I'm glad we have so many options for this range... But really just wish for the Sonnar 35/2 FE mount to use with AF improvements from camera systems. Would probably pay $1800 for that lens and size. I guess some of the size and field curvature is optimized for a fixed lens camera and I know that Sony is trying to keep the unsupported RX line alive.

I'm sure many people will like this though.

LoCA is greatly reduced when you stopped. So this is likely purple fringing caused lens flare you're seeing.

Agreed. I havent seen anything to excite me in all honesty. Although Im probably more excited to see what Sigma can pull out with a newly designed 35mm 1.2. I dont mind some extra weight if it gives me a unique look. Ive always got the RX1rII when I want to go light.
