but also hold the highlight to avoid increase global contrast or let lump to grab attention. This is a fast way to give a smooth neutral look without do much local adjust. It does not always work this easily but It can do good job without spend too much time on image. Hope that make sense. ...Show more →
It makes sense. Thanks for the detailed explanation.
Not at all, I am away from my home computer and these are linked from Flickr. I will create a post what I did here with some screen shots later today. SL2 has great color IMHO. I love its red channel. Hopefully, SL2S is as good. These are less than 5 mins edit with some local adjustment but they are benefit from right moment of light combination
Welcome back to the SL party! I don't know how long it's been for you but there have been at least one significant firmware update since you rotated out. Something to note, with this last big firmware update many of our SL lenses where automatically updated when we mounted on the SL2 with the new firmware, I think this might apply to the SL2-S as well. If so, you can't miss it as you will see an update msg on the camera as soon as you mount the SL lens if that lens hasn't already been updated.

Question for all you SL2/SL2-S owners. I'm getting more familiar with my SL2-S but coming from Sony, there are some, IMO, quirky things. Right now I'm shooting strictly manual focus and I could use some help with a couple of things:
1) I set up a user profile with all desired settings for shooting in manual mode. This includes setting up focus peaking. I have it set to Red/High. In my Info Profile (under Camera Settings) I have Focus Peaking turned on. I have only one Info Profile active to keep things simple.
Here's the issue: When I turn my camera on, I see the little person icon (with a red highlight) on the right side of the screen. And focus peaking is observed on the LCD and EVF. However, when I half press the shutter button, the focus peaking icon disappears and focus peaking doesn't show while focusing until I turn the camera off and turn it back on again. Half pressing the shutter makes focus peaking disappear again for the entire time the camera is powered. What am I missing.
2) I like shooting in Aperture mode and Auto ISO. Coming from Sony, I could set my aperture and then adjust the shutter speed with a dial. On the SL2-S, there doesn't seem to be a way to assign shutter speed to a dial. Instead, I have to set a maximum shutter speed in Auto ISO Settings and then this becomes the default shutter speed.
The assignment of the top and thumb wheels seems to be limited on this camera and not fully assignable. Is this true? Is there another way I can adjust shutter speed while shooting in Aperture mode that I am missing?
3) I was going crazy when I first started to set up my camera. It would lose all it's settings and revert to default settings after shutoff and power on. I then learned to assign my preferred settings to a user profile. But this was unexpected to me.
Lastly, I am loving what this camera produces!...Show more →
Are you in continuous AF? or tracking? Try turning them off if you are.

A few from this past weekend in Northern Wisconsin.
Bob, love your images as always.
You should try a SL APO prime. They are all outstanding wide open from center to the very corners of the frame. There is virtually no improvement stopping the lens down. I don't get impressed very easily but almost guarantee you will be very impressed.

Thanks Fred! Yes, I hope to try out some SL primes but I need to sell a few lenses first. Good to hear how impressed you are. I'm really liking the camera. And I'm still trying to decide how far to pare down my Sony E-mount lenses without 'sacrificing' the system . . .
I just picked up a Sigma 45/2.8 DG DN to check out AF. It'll be good for some run and gun street and hiking photography.
I took the SL2-S to a photoshoot of a Habitat for Humanity build. I brought my only AF lens which is currently the Sigma 45/2.8. The resulting images hardly had to be processed. Here's a few examples.
Looking for some help here. Now that I realized that SL2-S can go as long as 30 minute exposures (mechanical shutter only), I started to play with some long exposures. I mounted a 15 stop Lee FiveSeven IRND 15 Stop ND onto the two different 35mm M-Mounts and shot at f/11. The results are shown below. I've only tried these two lenses and you can see impact on the Voigtlander is much less than the Zeiss.
I haven't tried any other lenses on the Leica SL2-S yes but I might compare these on a Sony body. It doesn't seem to matter which direction I am facing versus the sun or whether I'm standing in shade or sun. I did do one exposure with a six stop ND and the effect on the Zeiss was much less but still there.
[EDIT}. Note the third image which is the Zeiss Distagon 35/1.4 at same aperture and exposure time but on the Sony A1. This reflection doesn't appear here.
Thoughts Should this be happening? I've used the 15-stop on other lenses (Voigtlander, Loxia) and have never seen this before.

Someone on another thread suggested I may have a light leak through the M to L adapter I'm using which is a cheap ($15) Fotasy adapter. I've ordered a few others to see if there is a significant difference when doing long exposures.
