Hello. Am just now taking a look. Yes. Light leak would be my guess too. But you don't see any indication of the same with regular exposure and the same adapter? Also what adapter did you use with the Sony A1?
S1R and S Pro 70-200mm f4, with a circular polarizer on a wet, rainy day. I had to remove a bit of saturation from the red channel, but the colours still pack a punch!

Looking for some help here. Now that I realized that SL2-S can go as long as 30 minute exposures (mechanical shutter only), I started to play with some long exposures. I mounted a 15 stop Lee FiveSeven IRND 15 Stop ND onto the two different 35mm M-Mounts and shot at f/11. The results are shown below. I've only tried these two lenses and you can see impact on the Voigtlander is much less than the Zeiss.
I haven't tried any other lenses on the Leica SL2-S yes but I might compare these on a Sony body. It doesn't seem to matter which direction I am facing versus the sun or whether I'm standing in shade or sun. I did do one exposure with a six stop ND and the effect on the Zeiss was much less but still there.
[EDIT}. Note the third image which is the Zeiss Distagon 35/1.4 at same aperture and exposure time but on the Sony A1. This reflection doesn't appear here.
Thoughts Should this be happening? I've used the 15-stop on other lenses (Voigtlander, Loxia) and have never seen this before....Show more →
Looks like a light leak to me. I've seen this ill-effect in my own images when using adapters. Even one of my Novoflex adapters had a tiny light leak.
If you use the Leica M-L adapter, it will read 6-bit info from your lenses. If you don't have Leica 6-bit coded lenses, it's easy to add code to your Voigtlander and Zeiss ZM lenses since they have a groove on their rear mount. With that, you will have EXIF transmission and IBIS on your shots. The lens name will be whatever Leica lens you borrow the 6-bit code from. For example: Voigtlander 28/2 Ultron II can use Leica 28/2 Summicron.

Hello molson,
your picture is great, the colors are great. I have seen some tests and reviews about the difference between the Lumix S Pro 70-200mm f:4 and the Lumix S Pro 70-200mm f:2.8 O.I.S.. The f:2.8 lens is excellent and better than the f:4 one in all aspects, I am blown away... because I was wondering: if the f:4 lens is as good as it looks like in real life, what should be the f:2.8 lens?

Actually, I was under the impression that the f4 version is the better of the two, unless you're shooting portraits wide open at f2.8, but I didn't keep my f2.8 long enough to do any side-by-side comparisons.

Maybe you can consider a OEM M to L adapter in this case. It is different than other camera that Leica implemented a few features with it that you can use rear wheel to set zoom ratio, and joystick can be used for 100% view instantly. This is especially valuable if you mix AF and MF lens that you don't need change joystick function. Of course, you can manual select any M lens in the list to have it record EXIF for lens without 6 bit. I think for SLx user, this is worth the premium.

I remember in one of comparison between the two, f4 is actually slightly sharper. This f4 zoom is an ambitious design that offer nice bokeh and with 77mm front, it also show less cat eyes than any 70-200 f4 zoom I tried. it is build well though heavy and big.

Thanks to all for your input. I ordered a couple of different non-OEM M to L adapters to see what might work better. I've always had good luck with the cheaper ones and this is a first time I've had an issue. While 6-bit coding might be nice, I simply assign a lens profile when mounting a lens. Then, in Lightroom, I use the Lens Tagger plugin to get the exact lens name in Exif. That works fine for me. Now if I can't get rid of the light leak with these non-OEM adapters, I might have to splurge for the Leica.
Loving these SL primes, I now have the SL35APO, SL50/1.4 and SL90APO....SO darn sharp wide open and pretty much perfect wherever you zoom in on the image.... Sometimes, I just spend time zooming and just...well, spacing out on how cool the bokeh vs. focal point and the transition zones are...They draw beautifully and artistically.
