Those I’ve looked at side by side a few times a bit more carefully. The Nikon is a pretty great lens especially at wide apertures. I’m not really sure why it gets a so-so rep other than the fact it isn’t the 50/1.8S which is stellar. But that’s like saying Zeiss is only so-so because it’s not the German manufacturer called Leica.
The Nikon is definitely sharper wide open by a WIDE margin outside the center, and maybe at all apertures. In the center it’s more a wash and both are great. The Nikon looks good and has good contrast on its own, but against the Zeiss it’s not quite there, with stuff like those green marsh grasses showing more shades in the Zeiss, by a good bit. Again the Nikon is a good lens, but especially for landscapes the Zeiss is the Zeiss.
Edit: I was thinking about this a bit more and thought it worth sharing. I was looking at the 35/1.8G and the 35/2D recently as well (I like 35’s, can you tell?). The 1.8G has cleaned bokeh and better borders, a bit more sharpness stopped down. But it also suffered similarly vs the older f/2D. Call me a believer that all the exotic glass and special elements are making lenses sharper but less depth and micro contrast vs lenses of old.

Mathieu, how to like your Loxia 35/2 compared to your Nikon Z 35/1.8 S lens?

Thank you Mathieu. Appreciate your comments on both lenses. I really enjoy using Zeiss lenses for the similar reason as you stated. I am looking for a small/compact 35mm to pair with my Z7.
It’s not cheap but the TZE and 35/2 or 40/1.2 are both great options.

Walk around after dinner, brought with my the Z7 with Voigtlander 50 F1.2. Should have got the Voigtlander 110mm Macro with me, saw a lot of bugs too. but the Voigtlander 50mm can't do close up. It turns out to be a sunstar testing again.

Second this question. Don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say they love the MF experience of G’s! You might have a unicorn adapter!

@lsds@@, what adapter do you use for the Contax G lenses on your Z6?
These are with the new Fotodiox pro mf adapter(CG lenses > NZ).
The 'locking pin/tab' feature is on the side and can be engaged/disengaged without dismounting the adapter.
Key learning personally to smooth operation and avoiding frustration/damage was understanding the CG locking mechanism and not using brute force.
Once accurately mounted, focus experience with the FD is smooth overall, even with the G 90.
Build quality, ease of operation, feel, size, price - all a big win given the other alternatives.
Coming from the MF Nikkor and Leica R world, the focusing experience in general has left me pleasantly surprised; given the negative internet feedback on mf focus adaptability with adapters for the CG system.
I had even opened the FD adapter hoping to factor in potential improvements(grease, tab play, spring strength etc.) but found everything existing to be adequate and mechanism quite simple in operation; best left as-is.
Whole heartedly agree on the mounting, maybe FD made it a bit better on this new one. If you get it lined up right and don’t brute force it as you say, it’s not as bad as it’s reported to be. I’d still like to see the TA-GA3 get working on the TZE-01 but might give the G’s another go.
