With all the time Nikon took to develop the new 180-600, honestly I'm disappointed. I was really looking forward to replacing my old Sigma with a lighter lens with internal zoom and ditching the FTZ but from what I've seen posted so far and reviews it seems like it might be a step down in IQ. I really don't like shooting at f8 to get the best out of a lens. I was fully expecting to see a lens that was at least on par IQ wise with the Sony. And certainly was expecting it to beat a seven year old third party zoom. The question is, will the difference in IQ be outweighed by the lighter weight and internal zoom ?

Nowhere have I seen that it’s inferior to the Sigma. And if it is similar in IQ but with far better AF and stabilization, that’s a big win, IMO.

Well, from what I've seen by some very competent photographers, I'd say it is inferior. But two very good points, the AF and stabilization. I almost always shot the Sigma from a gimbal with my D500 because I didn't trust the OS. However, with the Z9 I found it to be much better. I would expect the Nikon to be much better yet.
I never found the AF lacking on the Sigma, I have the S version. It will be interesting to see if the Nikon is much better. I ordered from B&H on day of announcement because I was really excited about this lens but I cancelled that order. I'm first on the list at a LCS so I may get a chance to do a side by side sometime in the near future. I hope I'm wrong because I really want to be able to justify getting the Nikon.
As far as being inferior to the Sigma, like I said, I thought it was reasonable to expect it to outperform a seven year old similar class lens. That doesn't seem to be the case. Hence my disappointment. Feel free to show me where I'm wrong. I'm by no means saying it's a bad lens, I just expected better.
I've been shooting mostly infrared this year with my Z7 (full spectrum) but I do shoot some normal color (using an external UV/IR Cut filter on the lens) sometimes. The top two were taken the other evening and the bottom two are recent infrared shots.

Just a quick note to say your third picture … the one one of the white pebble with the two out of focus bathers.. is one of the best photos I have seen on this site for a while… absolutely outstanding… your framing, leading pebble line with the smaller white pebble, use of space, focus and colour is superb… I would be mighty proud if I had taken that… congrats.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I see great photographs posted by many members here and they all inspire me to go out and shoot. Your compliment gives me a good feeling that what I shoot may also speak to others.
