I swear by this lens on my D4 for baseball. Haven't tried it on my Z9 though.

I've used this 100-400 for my grandson's soccer, 9-11 Yr olds, on my D500 and it holds up great. Super sharp. I just got my Z9 so haven't had much of a chance to use it with this lens but I did find one day at the Arboretum I was trying to track a Clearwing moth, (hummingbird moth) , that was moving very quickly and the Sigma was struggling to keep up, even on the Z9.
I tried out a Z 100-400 at Samy's Camera when I was in Pasadena and loved it. Just not a focal length I use very often which is why I bought the Sigma about a year ago for next to nothing.

Thanks for the added info! I have assumed the Z 100-400mm would be much quicker to focus -- thank you for confirming. Like you I don't use this sort of lens often, so I've kept the Sigma + D4 because the two together were purchased (used) for much less than a new Z 100-400.
