Anyone still shooting this lens? I’d love to see more images.
I just received a like new copy from the b&s board and may take it out on a city walk tonight. A quick test looks like it may be pretty sharp across the frame wide open, need to go shoot it though to get a better feel. I like the balance on the Z8, plenty light enough for me.

It'll be interesting to see this and the new Viltrox 35 1.8 APO compared.

I used to own it but I have the Z 35 f1.2 S now. I think the Z 35 f1.8S is a fabulous lens and very underrated, probably because the Z 50 f1.8 S and Z 85 f1.8 S are so good that it doesn't quite measure up to those lens's lofty standards and thus didn't receive the love that I believe it deserves. Of course, this is just my opinion. I would probably still have the lens if I didn't own the Z 35 f1.2 S.

Thanks Lance, that is a good assessment, the 35/1.8 has been overshadowed by its siblings such as 50/85, but for those who want to shoot the 35mm focal length in an autofocus reasonably sized/weighted well-balanced package the 35/1.8 seems to be a great performer, and to me solid value at just over $500 USD mint used.

This lens passes my test for an enjoyable travel walkaround - plenty sharp enough across the frame wide open, and light enough to not bother me carrying it. If Nikon puts out a 28mm version of the same IQ it would be instant preorder for me, as lately I seem to be preferring that slightly wider view for this purpose.

I swapped a 50mm S for the 35mm S, knowing it’s a less regarded optic and I have to say, I don’t see what the general dislike of this lens is about! I prefer it for people, it’s just less clinically sharp and I find the falloff up to about f2.8 really, really pleasant!
So far, I’ve found the S line to all be really damn good.

I agree, it is an excellent lens and very underrated!

It really is a wonderful lens in the Z lineup, hits the balance on speed and size for those who enjoy 35mm focal length, and I found IQ from wide open to be quite wonderful. Sadly I am having to list mine on our b&s board because I have accumulated too much glass in two different systems and need to replenish the savings account.

That’s a nice problem to have though!
I think eventually this 35mm will allow me to move my 24mm S for wider, environmental portraits; beautiful rendering and a bit less distortion of human features. It really makes me hope Nikon has a 28mm S line lens in development though, as that’s my ideal FL for that kind of thing. They have a great track record going so far with the glass for the Z system and a top performing 28mm would be perfect for my needs alongside the 24-120 S.
Now, if I had just been able to get funds for your Z8 in time, I’d be cooking with gas hahaha

A Z 28/1.8 would be fantastic for me as well. I read from an interview that Nikon has planned a pretty aggressive new lens release schedule for the next several years so hopefully it happens. They have a great history at the 28mm focal length.
