Some of the new zoom lenses from Nikon are great and setting new benchmarks for zooms. But you gotta admit, these primes are fantastic. I much prefer them for IQ and personality.

I actually like having a thread like this to a specific new lens (like the Sony forum has).
Is it just me, or does the bokeh on the 35/1.8S seem less "nervous"? Which might seem strange because one would expect them both to have similar optical formulas?

I agree that the bokeh from the 50, at times, may look nervous and that the 35 seems better. I’m still very satisfied with both.
I’m a 35/85 guy. However, with the price of the 50, I am ok having all three of these standards on my bag!
Can’t wait for the 85S.

On and I should point out that I decided to test out the eye AF with the ones where Margaret is pealing the endive and it worked really well. Her head was moving all over the place as she is very expressive

Not Sung's quality, but had a chance to use the 35/1.8 this weekend and came away very impressed. Don't share shots of my kids where it really shined, but here's a few examples.

Does anyone know how much distortion correction is automatically applied to the 35mm S (and 50mm S if you know) lenses by the baked in raw corrections?

I can't measure it but if Capture One, which seemingly allows one to disable distortion correction, is any indication, there is some but it's somewhat negligible for both lenses (same goes for lateral CA correction). Negligible as in "there's a good chance you wouldn't see the distortion in most cases if it weren't corrected". It isn't like the 14-30 or the 24-70, or even the Panasonic 50mm 1.4 S-pro, which really require correction for pictures to look normal. Here's a comparison using one of DPR's samples :
I have had the FE 35/1.4 for many years and it does not come close to the 35/1.8S. The FE 35/1.4 is an excellent lens the but comparison test results are just plain wrong.
Also here is the review done by Photography Life, by Nasim of the 35/1.8S and his actual test results are so different!
The comparison to note is the Sigma 35 Art versus the 35/1.8S as per Nasim's review shows the 35/1.8S is clearly superior but with DxO the lenses are on par. I must admit I have given up on DxO reviews as I find they rarely mirror real life usage.

Yes, DxO seems to be quite irrelevant these days, getting many lenses wrong. I don't even look at them at all now. Photography Life, Ephotozine, Camera Labs all do a much better job, especially considering they seem to actually use the lens and show samples etc.
