From yesterday walking around BJ with a friend. The dark portraits were shot at 1/30s handheld. Last one was shot at 1/8s handheld (85mm).

Had my first portrait shoot since a practice session back in...February...so long. Made some mistakes along the way but am learning. Looking forward to more soon, with less errors!
1. Shooting wide open and not checking my distance to get all of the face in focus (lost some shots)
2. Fill light misplaced (nose shadow on first shot)
3. Sending a photo to the model that wasn't 100% in focus and required too much sharpening
4. Not knowing how to direct the model. Took some time to warm up and get used to it.
5. Also had many instances of the camera being unable to acquire focus even with the modeling light on due to dim room lighting. Something I need to work around.
6. Sending photos that were overprocessed...had to rework some and fine tune my frequency separation skills.
Probably more. But it was fun and educational and I look forward to more of these sessions!

What were my mistakes (that I am aware of)?
1. Shooting wide open and not checking my distance to get all of the face in focus (lost some shots)
2. Fill light misplaced (nose shadow on first shot)
3. Sending a photo to the model that wasn't 100% in focus and required too much sharpening

Wonderful images, Adam! You scored well in all fronts, I would say.

The first session after the pandemic started or some 6 months into it. We kept portrait distancing of at least 6 feet and I was wearing a face cover myself...

Another recent shoot. This time without much help and I struggled with pose direction (not a pro model that already had experience with posing). But still a great learning experience!

I’m not sure if I did something right or very wrong but she finally asked if we could do photos with some different dresses. She still didn’t maintain interest that long (5 different dresses she picked turned into two) but at least there was some interest!

First with the Helios 44-4 and second with the 100-400...10 seconds after I took this photo he took a wrong step and was up to his neck in water, and yes, his little Canon Rebel survived That's a lifetime memory right there
