Looking at a Snowy Egret in Breeding Plumage standing on its left leg with the right leg raised (and the right foot partially hidden) just after scratching itself around its eye. The feathers of the head are all askew.

Along Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive, Apopka, FL.
Red-naped x Red-breasted Sapsucker hybrid IMBY Sacramento County California.
Apparently my yard is a magnet for these birds in the winter. Sapsuckers prefer orchards so it's no surprise this bird has made itself at home in the almond tree outside the kitchen window. I've set up a blind nearby so I can observe and photograph this bird through the winter season.
