These are some of the sharpest swallow shots I’ve seen, fantastic work. Were you using zone AF?

Hi, sorry I just saw this. No I wasn't. There has been some interest so I made a video.

Mainly I used wide area - it is super hard to keep them in the frame so zone would be too small and you wouldn't need it anyway. By the time they fly into the focus zone they are quite large in the frame and everything else is a blur.

Tracking: Expandable Flexible Spot also worked well but tricky to pick up the bird initially as you have to pre-focus and pick them up as they fly through the focus plane - its not so easy to place the box on the bird and hit the back button focus at the right time and if you miss you have to start all over. Wide works 90+% of the time - the only issue is if there is more than one bird then you never know which it will pick.

Not sure how well I explain in the video but the main trick is to make sure the background is a good 20 or 30 meters away so that once you acquire focus on the bird at close distance (< 10 meters) it is blurred and no longer presents anything confusing to the af system.

Tracking swallows as they fly around normally is a waste of time, you can never fill the frame - well maybe one in a million. I wanted some more reliable way.

My favorite Grey-header fish eagle with a great catch in the morning. My Rx10m4 not really good especially in the morning ~7+am with ISO1600. I'm actually looking forward the 200-600 either pair with A9 or A1.

I really hope Darktable starts supporting a7RIVa soon because I really don`t like what I am getting out of Capture1 Express...
