How’s that sigma doing for you on that camera?
I hate to say it, but I think the a6400 does a better job (at least with these large birds) with the Sigma than is does with the
Sony 100-400 with a tc.
I know, it sounds crazy.
I took, geez, 1400 images today, this morning. (10 shots a second
Of those, about 1000 were with the Sigma, 300 with the 100-400 with a 1.4 tc, 100 with just the 100-400.
I believe the Sigma had more shots in focus (percentage) than the 100-400 with tc. Not by much, but in my head, this shouldn't have been close.
I used mostly AF-C and wide for flight, AF-C and single point for standing still shots.
I did try the tracking, but I need to keep track of when I switch those settings, cause I don't have them on the screen when I'm viewing them.
Just a quick glance, probably not a huge difference in the amount of in focus shots between the two.
I've said it before, the Sigma 150-600C for the price, is one helluva lens.

Very interesting, Dave. The Sigma 60-600 Sports I am renting from Lensrental will arrive on Monday. I will do some testing on my A6400 before I use it for two airshows next weekend. I will bring the the 100-400 GM with me as well.
a7III, 100-400, using animal eye af.
If the subject got to far away, it would switch to regular AF-C af.
Once it locked, it stayed on, but these guys weren't moving much tonight.
Mike thanks. The whole NEX series was pretty IMO. still use the 5N which started my switch to Sony.
It was certainly iteresting using the NEX 6 on the 500
