$2275 is a good price to be sure, but at $1929 the thread starter shaved almost $350 off that $2275 deal. That is a remarkable deal.

$1929 is a great price but that's for a gray market camera....USA versions are usually a lot more expensive than the gray market bodies. The gray market deals are common while the USA deals are rare at this price.

One can buy a new 1DXII for less than 4K right now (gray market) as well.

Buying a Canon USA model is like buying an extended warranty for a new product. How many manufacturer defects crop up on a new camera between day 31 and day 365? I don't know but an extended warranty is likely of more value to a professional than a hobbyist.

I was interested in bidding on a Canon 5DS on eBay. The serial number was clearly displayed in one of the ad's photos. I called Canon to see if they could let me know, from the SN, if the camera was purchased from an authorized dealer in North America. The agent put me on hold, then. came back a few minutes later, advising that Canon does not have that information.

That’s strange. I purchased at least 3 bodies from them within the last two years without an issue. I received one call to upgrade, but told them no and that was it. The last two bodies shipped without any communication from the vendor.

I bought my first L lens from Digital something or another, it was a bait and switch place. I got a few calls to upgrade the lens to a lens with a steel mount instead of the plastic mount. I already knew no L lens had a plastic mount and declined all their advances.
I received the lens and am still using it 10 years later as my most used lens!!!
You'll probably get it, they just mailed it the slowest/cheapest way possible!
Good luck
John

I wonder if that's a Canada thing... they told me the same when i was looking to buy a used body and wanted to know if it was a North American model. They told me the only info they could provide was it's service history if it was ever sent in for service.

I don't think it's a Canada thing. Here's the text of an email. I just received from Canon US when I made the same query about a week ago:

"Unfortunately, our technical support team does not have a resource that will tell us the point of purchase, original region of sale, or manufacture date of a product. I regret any difficulty this news presents in your purchasing decision."

I ended up buying an EOS R and 24-105mm lens from an authorized dealer.

Following this thread got me to thinking more seriously about upgrading to a 5D IV. So I ordered an international (grey market) version that includes an EF 17-40 F4 and a 64GB SD card for $2199 with no tax from 6Ave through Amazon. With Prime membership, it includes free 2 day shipping. With the lens, this seemed to me like one of the better deals available. So far, no calls and only emails were confirming the order and that it shipped with tracking information.
Thanks
Steve

I’d be interested to know how this works out!

Should be at the local FedEx station for pickup on Tuesday. I’ll post how everything looks when I have it in hand and have checked it out a bit.

I was tempted by one of the DealsAllYear eBay listings around Thanksgiving. Even if you added on the Square Trade warranty, it was still well below USA pricing. I wouldn't rely on the "vendor warranty" from anyone besides B&H or Adorama. But Square Trade is a 3rd party, now owned by a large insurance company, and I've had successful claims with them in the past on phones.

Thanks. I wish you the best! I found that listing and only saw mention of the lens in the title but dexriotion is devoid of information related to the lens.

I just watched a 6ave 5d mk IV unboxing video on YouTube, he got a kit box with camera only. Wasn’t your same deal, as he got it off NewEggFlash (deal is still active for $2000).

The invoice listed the 5D IV basic kit and the EF 17-40 International version. In the Amazon add, as you scroll through the photos, it does show the lens.

Good to know about the invoice and yup - I saw that lens picture! Just interesting to not be listed in description.

What comes with the 5d Mark IV that you bought from Deals All Year? Is it the same as the USA model? As in, Chinese language instructions? Just curious.

That's interesting because I purchased a new, gray market Canon 5D IV on ebay in February 2017 and when I tried to register it at CPS it would not accept the serial number.

Here's the email I received from Canon in response to my query about verifying if the camera was sold by an authorized dealer. Although the message is very clear, I find it hard to believe.

"Dear Dan,

Thank you for contacting Canon product support regarding the EOS 5DS. I understand you are interested in purchasing a used camera and have some questions. My name is William, and I can assist you.

Unfortunately, our technical support team does not have a resource that will tell us the point of purchase, original region of sale, or manufacture date of a product. I regret any difficulty this news presents in your purchasing decision.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

Thank you for choosing Canon."

Sincerely,

William

I would imagine that they’d keep that information secret, to discourage the purchase of the non US items.

I’m sure they can tell the difference between the USA and other versions. If they refused to service, then they would, of course, miss out on taking your money for the repair. It’s still a profit for them. But they want you to buy the USA version from the get-go.
