Interesting to see Imatest resolution figures (from irentals.cn) of the GM 24 (A7RIII), Sigma Art 28 (5DSR), Nikon 28 (D850). I know they're in the same focal length, but I believe they're in the similar tech gen. The Sony is really optimized for WO shooting, at least at close distance (but I think similarly for near infinity as well). These numbers are with all corrections on.
LoCA (after correction) is actually better than both the Sigma and Nikon:
Sony FE 24mm f/1.4GM magnification (in-focus) color difference is: 7.71μm
The axial (out-of-focus) color difference of Sony FE 24mm f/1.4GM is: 9.65μm
Sigma 28mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art magnification (in-focus) color difference: 11.7μm
The axial (out-of-focus) color difference of Sigma 28mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art is: 13.89μm
Dispersion control is not excellent, but it is better than Nikon's chromatic aberration of 14.15 μm (both axial dispersion is the same). You can also see some dispersion in the real shots:...Show more →
May I know where U got the loca numbers from? Not all reviews test for loca and I personally feel loca is more impt than stuff like sharpness.
I don’t have the 28mm sigma but my experience with the 35mm 40mm sigma tells me their loca is very well corrected , but their bokeh at transition areas are bad.

no sure how they measured the numbers but if you look at the 24mm review on that website, you can see significant LoCA on their sample pics even at such low resolution.

Again, the numbers don't indicate that the GM 24 doesn't have any LoCA, it just means that it's better than other recent 28/1.4 .
Of course "significant" is a qualitative assessment that is very subjective. Personally, I don't see anything significant in the sample pics. I have seen some bizarre LoCAs with this lens, but it's more of an exception than the norm.
Yes it suffers from LoCA as do many fast primes but it renders beautifully, is relatively small, has fast and silent AF, aperture ring etc etc. It performs well in so many ways and if you shoot landscape only, don't need AF and f1.4 then the loxia is obviously a better option but what I need this lens for I can live with it

The sigma 28mm must not be too good for loca. I am pretty sure the sigma 35mm was much better than the Sony 24gm.
The lens is great but not perfect like what some reviews made it out to be. It’s probably the best 24mm option for Sony now.

Not really, sigma fast primes I have used like 35mm 40mm has minimal loca but bad bokeh. The Canon 35mm seems to have Low loca and good bokeh but I haven’t tried it yet.
Anybody looking for one B&C Camera just called me they just got one in stock (they're my local authorized Sony dealer) https://store.bandccamera.com/products/sony-fe-24mm-f-1-4-gm-lens
It might show out of stock online because they were initially going to hold it for a friend of mine but you can call them to order it (if you want ask for Rob he's the one that called me).
Here's a few (probably over processed, but I think fun) shots from Edinburgh a couple weeks ago. Man I love this lens. Wish they'd come out with a 40 or 50mm GM!
What do you love about it,if you processed them so much...? Just curious. Any 24 would've looked that way after those edits.

Sony made this lens for astro & environmental portrait.
Been using it for awhile. The sharpness is optimized for wide open. Going to f/2 improves, but the jump from f/2 to 4 (peak center) or 5.6 (peak corner) isn't very big. It's not the best lens at f/8: Loxia is better for landscape.

I'm still looking for the 24 GM...anybody know where I can find it?
Rob
I ordered one from dell.com last Sunday and received it on Tuesday w/express shipping. I questioned whether they actually had it or not, but it came right away. It seems like they still have it in stock now. Dell.com is not an authorized sony dealer, but I was able to register my lens on Sony's site with no issue, hopefully that means no warranty issues. Focus Camera also had it in stock earlier this week.
Maybe a dumb question but is anyone using an ND filter with their 24/1.4? I'm finding limited ability to work at max aperture during the day and wondering if it is dumb to get an ND4 or ND8 to be able to take advantage of the wide open aperture in mid-day light. This was never a problem with my f/4 zooms

You know, for a few more dollars you can get an A9 and shoot up to 1/32000 second electronic shutter speed. I think that other newer models from Sony go to 1/16000, but I don't know how well their ES works.
