I seem to recall that this 24/1.4 GM lens was everyone's favorite a while back but Sony has since released other interesting fast prime lenses like the 20/1.8 or the 35/1.8 - how are people still feeling about this one? Still a favorite tool in the box?
I personally shoot mostly available light portraits, travel, documentary, etc. Not really much landscape, never wildlife or astro. The idea was to have the 24/1.4 as a light-weight two lens combo with the 55/1.8, but I guess the 20 or 35 are options. My thinking was that 24mm and 55mm was sufficiently apart and lenses with good character. ...Show more →
I ditched my 24/1.4 for the 20/1.8. The 24 was not quite wide enough and the wide end is also covered by my 24-105. My optimal travel combo is the FE 20/1.8 and FE 35/2.8.

I still love mine. It's wide enough for indoor shooting in tight spaces, is a great focal length for environmental portraits, and is super sharp. And the other big benefit is that it becomes an extremely competent 35mm equivalent in crop mode on the fly if you want a more standard FL.
Everyone is different, but a 20mm would be too wide/distorted for me and while I have the 35mm f/1.8, I never use it. The 24 GM or the CV 40 stay on my camera most of the time unless I need a versatile zoom.

I originally owned the FE 35mm f/1.8 (which I still own) and bought this to replace the 16-35GM. At first I was a bit worried they’d be too similar but I find they both have a distinctive look and can justify keeping both.
I use the 24GM for my Cityscapes and travel whereas the 35MM is my general walk around lens and nicer for tighter portraits IMO, although the GM dies these really well too.
I originally had the 35mm Art in E mount but sold it for the Sony 35mm as I wanted something small but now that I have the 24GM I feel like I could have kept the Art.
Regardless of all that I really love the 24GM and it’s such a versatile focal length so hard not to like!

The FE 24/1.4 GM and FE 135/1.8 GM are still my favorite lenses from Sony.

I have yet to try the 135/1.8 GM, I assume I'd love it, however, it is a bit longer than what I normally use for portraits, but I should probably rent one of pick one up used here on FM.
24/1.4 was glued on my Sony body during the last two weeks of vacation (along with a 35'lux on a M6 and a 50/1.8G on a F100)

Absolutely. I will adjust as needed to use the 135 over my 85. The 135 always provides stunning images. It actually makes me seem like a semi decent photographer.
As an added bonus for those who shoot infrared, the 24GM has no hotspot whatsoever with the Kolari IR-Chrome filter or with any filter 590 or below, at any aperture. With a 720nm filter, it picks up a slight hotspot around f/5.6 that is manageable.
Nice shots Fred, you are in my neck of the woods . I go there every year but cancelled this year with everything that is going on, would be a great time to go though I hear the amount of tourists are way down this year.

I haven't got to use this lens as much as I would like since getting it earlier in the year but in the small amount I have, it's been amazing!
