How’s the sample variation with this lens?
My first copy was excellent. Very rarely I see a well-centered copy at first try.
Other members also reported a similar experience with this lens, so perhaps it was not luck.
Roger at Lensrentals could test 10-20 copies and report on sample variation more accurately.

If this is a 1:1 crop showing the corners, it looks pretty good to my eyes.
I'm not super familiar with the terminology, but what I did was zoom 100% in Photoshop and cropped the corner. If that is a 1:1 crop then I did it right .
I have got mine this week. I have not test decentering extensively, but it looks like all corners are sharp enough even at f/1.4.
Here are some samples. Except the second one default import into LR 5.7 through DNG without any modification (i.e. no corrections, I have "Shading comp." turned off in camera):

Thanks to @GMPhotography for the tip on the Haoge screw-in rectangular metal lens hood. Works great on the 24mm. Very sturdy and well made. Plus, it isn't nearly as bulky as the OEM hood.
Well, I went ahead and placed on order for this lens. I am sure I have a long wait in front of me and that is OK. 24mm is my favorite focal length and other than my Batis 135, I do not have any auto focus lenses. I do not see this as a replacement for my Loxia 21 but I see this more as a step towards building my autofocus kit.
How is it effect on Batis 85 or 135 ?. I hate to use to batis hood, it to big.

I really, really didn't think I was going to like this lens as much as I did...
I had gone back and forth and decided that I wanted it only because of some nice shots here and that evil GAS. But then I decided to rent the lens for a trip to the Caribbean and brought along the 24-105/4 as well. I was still undecided about the lens by day 3. But by day 5 I found myself reaching for it for every sunrise and most sunset shoots. I still used the zoom during the day.
The size of the lens is just about perfect. The ability to use it as a 36mm f/2 equivalent at 18MP on the a7rIII made it surprisingly versatile in the evening. The aperture ring was really easy to use (much more so than the scroll wheel on the camera body for changing apertures).
I have many favorites using the lens on this trip. Here is one:
f/4 1/100 iso 200 handheld
I’ve pretty much used a 24mm my whole career and once you get used to using one it’s really hard to put back in the bag. One reason I loved the Loxia 25 before this came out. I actually sold the Loxia 25. Sony really did a great job here. I do wish they continue down this path with more focal lengths

My use case these days for this issue (primes vs. zooms) is traveling. At what point does carrying a bunch of lenses and trying to change them to get the right shot begin to interfere with the pleasure of the trip and the seeing of things for myself and others.

I believe it’s quite personal. For me, the tipping point for discomfort is where you start to need a camera bag / backpack. I.e. anything larger than a compact like a RX100. So the question is - if I’m already carrying a bag and tripod and whatnot, why not go for the best image quality possible.
I am aware of the “changing lens in the field in bad weather or dusty conditions” issue, but then I’m just an amateur, I don’t have to take the shot no matter what - I can decide to having dinner or visiting a museum instead of changing lens in the rain.
They do have it listed...For $1884! Not accepting any of their silly coupon codes to reach normal MSRP.
And ships by March 4th right now.
Yea. That's why you need to price match if you were even thinking of buying, but it sounded like I was the only one successfully able to price match. It's actually receive by Mar. 4 as even their expedited shipping is UPS ground or at least it was in my case.

Does anyone know the lead time right now from adorama or BH if you order today? What kind of wait times have you all been seeing as of late?
According to Amazon, 7 to 9 weeks. I'm not sure about other US retailers.
