Awesome shot Lance. BTW are you watching the Sydney test match.
Thank you very much, Venkat!
No, I am not watching it out of protest to the 1 year ban to Warner and Smith (whom I know personally). Way over the top suspensions considering other "punishments" for ball tampering.
Hey guys, I'm just curious if anyone else who has the S 35mm f1.8 or S 50mm f1.8 lens, has noticed the aperture blades close down, when you adjust the camera f stop setting? When the lens is mounted, and in Aperture priority mode, the blades are wide open if the camera setting is to f1.8. But when you set it to f5.6 for example, the blades close down ahead of time. Is this normal? Or have I got this wrong? I thought they should stay wide open until the photo is made? Any input appreciated, thanks.

The Z's keep the LV lens aperture matched to the shooting aperture from wide-open down to f/5.6, after which they keep the lens at f/5.6. This is done to keep the AF performance from degrading when shooting at apertures smaller than f/5.6
Z7 + FTZ + Reflex-Nikkor 500mm f/8N + tripod, ISO 500 (left & right) or 1600 (centre) at 1/60s (left & right) or 1/200s (centre). Images ~35% cropped (16/45MP). Note the feather moulting in the head.
The reflex/mirror teles, always difficult to focus due to the dark image at viewfinder, are now a pleasure to use - and the focus peaking looks like better than Sony's A7Rii.

Thanks. I used a tripod. I saw the potential scene the day prior while walking around CES and brought a tripod with me the next day to shoot it.
Z7 + FTZ + Nikkor 400mm f/5.6K ED (non-IF) ai´d, hand held - IBIS activated; ISO 500, f/5.6 at 1/250s, ~22% cropped (10/45MP). The IBIS or in body VR works very well for MF lenses, but my preliminary shooting reveals too that the electronic front curtain shutter is a must to get sharper images, both hand held and on tripod.
Just in case you didn't think the Z7 + 500 pf combo was sharp enough:
Z7 + 500 f5.6 PF, 1/500s f/5.6 at 500.0mm iso1600
100% crop of above. This is how Lorikeets feathers look, especially these Scaly-breasted Lori's, quite difficult to photograph as they are rather iridescent and reflect light at certain angles. Hence this white look at certain angles.
