Awesome! Would you mind taking a measurement of the your screen glass with a ruler? I'm looking at the measurements on the amazon listing and there is an EOS M10 one that may fit a little better.

I was in a similar position trying to find a good tempered glass cover but my good friend who is a manager of Camera House on the Gold Coast suggested to use the generic polymer cover. He takes about 10 minutes and flawlessly you have a great cover on the LCD without the bubbles you often fight with the tempered glass covers.

Over here, I just went to one of those places that sell phone accessories including screen cover.
They just measured my LCD and top screen and cut out a piece from their phone covers and installed it for me. Since they do this all the times for phones so very easy job for them.

I have cross posted my reply to Michael in the other Alternative thread.

I also tested the 58G and 105E both @f/1.4 in mid complex lighting and found the 105E to work superbly whereas the 58G I had to select more carefully. The 58G has always been difficult at close/medium distances wide open. Whereas the 105E with the Z7 AF-C set for wide will find the nearest eye accurately.

I suspect the 70-200E will work really well too.

Met up with a group which was doing a photowalk through downtown Houston tonight, here is a gallery with the Z7 + 35s

Converted from NEF to DNG with Adobe DNG Converter and imported/exported from Capture One 11.3

Full res can be found here for the below images
https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-b6hQdH/

In body VR is quite impressive, my right hand is still recovering from an injury so my dexterity isn't back to norm and have limited grip tension. Most of the shots were less than 1/100s without a tripod

Those are some seriously impressive shots. Have not had an opportunity yet to critically look at the full res images but at first glance they appear to be sharp corner to corner! Exactly what Nikon has been touting as an advantage of the larger mount.

Thanks for the info on the 58mm. Yes that lens is difficult to shoot close up wide open. Were you able to focus manually with the 58mm? If so, how was that? For me on my D750 I've generally try to manually focus using the focus confirmation dot but it's hard when the subject moves away from the focus area. So I was hoping the Z7 would be better in that respects with focus peaking and a focus coverage across the entire frame. Solid images though, that 105E looks gorgeous.

For the first time in recent memory, I have absolutely no interest in “upgrading” to Nikon’s “latest and greatest”. I am more than satisfied with my 850 and 500 supplemented by an appropriate complement of Nikon and Sigma lenses. Nothing I have seen or read is compelling from my vantage point. I must note, however, that my main interest is birding, so perhaps that factors into the decision.

I finally found an advantage with my tripod head setup.

I own the Arca Swiss PO slidefix setup which uses a smaller plate. 32mm instead of the standard 38mm. I really love my setup but it has been a pain when needing new plates, l-brackets etc.
For years you could only buy the arca swiss plates which are $50. Finally in the last year or so there is 3rd party for cheaper. L-Brackets is the same issue.

I can use these 32mm plates on the Z7 with the FTZ adapter attached.

Agree, not every camera is made to do everything well or for everyone. Maybe the next iteration will be the one for you, The d850/500/5 set a high bar for the next generation which is great to see.

If I was birding and erring to fast/dynamic action shots the D850/D500 would also be my choice also

That said the Z7 and the new 24-70s /35s are proving to be an outstanding IQ producing system. There are quirks still to be sorted but it is proving to be an amazing system. The quirks maybe real and require FW updates or just fully understanding how the Z7 works and setting up appropriately. Even after 12 months I am learning new settings on the D850

I have not tried the 58G on the Z7 in MF mode yet. With the D850 the AF-C, single/d9 and AUTO work really well but it does require an intimate understanding the behaviour of your 58G. Each 58G behaves differently and you have to figure out the settings that suit. I suspect the same will apply with the Z7. The 105E being a superbly designed lens it should behave well on the Z7.

Another shot with the Z7 FZT adapter and 105E. AF-C and AUTO.

RAW shot in mid complex lighting post processed in Lr

The other comment is that it is wonderful to have IBIS as I would never attempt a shot with the 105E on the D850 at 1/80sec! Usually I would set at 2 to 3x FL in a dynamic environment so to achieve the same shot with the D850 I would have needed a ISO of 1600 to 3200 as compared to 400.

I hope I am missing something, but I can't find a way to customize image playback options like every other Nikon I have owned.

I really like looking at pics with the histogram and the blown highlights. I normally leave blown highlights as my standard playback option. I don't see any way to scroll through the options during image playback.

Another shot this time 28E FTZ and Z7 set on AF-C AUTO but at close distance to see if the eye was in focus. Ignore the perspective as it is not ideal

When I am reviewing pictures, scrolling through using the up and down presses on the thumped gets me the same review options I get on my other Nikons (including blown highlights)...

Received the Z7 with adapter yesterday and based on the little testing, I am amazed at the tracking feature even with F mount lenses. The lens is overworked a little and hopefully the motors will handle the load!

The EVF is plain awesome.

Since we don’t have a profile yet, how certain can we be that these files will be the same quality as the D850?
Isn’t it the same sensor? I’ve really found the D850 to be the greatest files I’ve edited.

In video recording mode, would adapted AF-S lenses make auto focus noise? I am debating if I need to get the kit lens as it seems to be silent in video AF I've seen.

I don't do video but AF-S lenses make the same noise on my Z7/FTZ as on my DSLR's.
The 80-400G is similarly twitchy or "nervous" as some put it.
My 70-300 AF-P is practically silent on both my D850 and the Z7.

I have only had the Z7 and 24-70 S for 24 hours but the lens seems superb - as virtually everybody reports - as well as silent. I wouldn't hesitate to get the package deal.

Although there is still time, I kind of regret not going for the package deal with my Z6 order, I would have saved over $300 on the price of the 24-70. I suppose I could contact NPS and look into how much further back it would put my order if I upgraded.

Yes - they do make some noise. They are not completely silent.
