Although there is still time, I kind of regret not going for the package deal with my Z6 order, I would have saved over $300 on the price of the 24-70. I suppose I could contact NPS and look into how much further back it would put my order if I upgraded.
The Z7 is not selling like the D850 did. The kits are in stock in a number of places including Amazon. Just cancel your order and buy from open stock....

I don't think the same applies to the Z6 because it's priced more competitively ($1,996.95 vs $3,396.95). But yes, the Z7 kits are definitely in stock at a bunch of places--anyone who wants one now definitely won't have trouble finding one. I would also expect to see used ones pop up soon in the secondary market.

Thanks but I am only interested in the Z6. I think I may have just blown my 24-70 money anyway on a Sinar P2 4x5 to 8x10 conversion kit. I'll wait for my current order to fill.
"Indeed the Z 7 gives the impression that Nikon hasn’t held anything back in a bid to protect its DSLRs,
and instead has produced the best mirrorless camera it believes it can make right now, that will handle more-or-less like a mini-D850.
This sets it apart from Canon’s EOS R, which feels more like a design experiment that’s trying to be different for the sake of it.
Naturally the Z 7 has its own foibles and irritations, but overall it gets considerably more right than it does wrong.
Indeed for applications where its few specific weaknesses are unimportant, I think that on balance,
it’s the best camera on the market right now, either mirrorless or DSLR."

Just following up on previous comments regarding using manual focus lenses on the FTZ. There is no AF confirm for non-cpu lenses or ZF.2 (CPU) lenses. The ZF.2 lenses do populate the exif so you can identify the shooting parameters. If the non-cpu lenses are set up in the camera, the exif records the lens as '0.0mm f0.0' but does record the focal length and aperture as set. Thus, unlike Sony, it is possible to identify the lens used, or at least it's major attributes.
This is significant to me since I have a number of lenses that I will want to try on this body and it's much easier to be able to use exif to help identify them. On Sony I need to remember to use keywords.

Was able to check out the Z7 today with the 24-70 f4. Damn the thing focuses fast! AF-C mode does seem a little flakey though, hope firmware updates help with that. Funny thing was when I was swapping between it and my D850 with a comparable size lens, I felt like the D850 was so much more comfortable to hold and not that much heavier because of size of the grip.
I dislike that the AF mode button/switch has gone, as my muscle memory makes me go for it, but I can see why they didn't put it in the old location. Minor gripe.
The EVF and rear LCD screen is absolutely stunning. It's the first EVF I've used where I could easily be convinced it was an OVF - super crisp, no noticeable pixels, great color and contrast. The more I think about it, the more impressed I am with the EVF in particular. The top LCD is awesome - just the right size, and super useful for the way I shoot.
The grip I'd say is perfect. The just right height and depth for my medium size hands, and none of that pinky hanging off the edge BS like you have with the Sonys.
I had cancelled my preorder, so don't have one coming for now, but I'll be watching with baited breath to see how the AF-C develops with post-release firmware updates, as aside from that I think I'm sold on the thing.

I have a different take of the Z7 banding issue at +5 stops in deep shadows. I suspect this will addressed by a FW update in the baked pre processing of RAW files with the Z7 very soon.
There is an interesting comparison by Tony Northrup today comparing the Z7, A7rIII and EOS-R
I find it interesting that at the same push of +5/+6 there is random color noise on the A7rIII rather than banding. My take is that all PDAF MILC sensors are prone to PDAF lines/banding due to the PDAF array but I suspect that Nikon with the next FW update the banding will disappear. It is much easier to get rid of the banding than random color noise.
If banding if ever an issue just use Nik Dfine2 as part of the standard Nik package plugin for Lr/PS. It works so well for any hint of banding as you select in manual mode either vertical or horizontal. I usually use no other noise reduction with Nik Dfine2. In the past I used it with Leica Monochrom as similar sensor patterns showed up under extreme pushing of shadows. Very quick step in post processing!

I would cancel if I were you. I bought the full kit (Z7, 24-70, FTZ and 35/1.8S) from my local dealer and he gave me the FTZ adapter for free, plus an additional 150€ off the total bill

For the most part my results are the same. Out of a couple hundred photos taken over the weekend, I only found banding on one of them. It required a 5 stop push, and a 3:1 view to see it.
For me the banding is not an issue.

Even with banding the shadow recovery seems to be miles better than Canon. And people are able to make half decent shots with Canon bodies
However, this RAW flaws and processing can be bad for image algorithms that rely on random noise patterns (like astrophotography processing). I wonder if this pattern will be removable by dark frames removal.

well, it is canon after all, same old story out of them but...and its a big one....according to TN, the canon IS prettier ....can't believe anyone would actually use :"prettier": as any kind of pro for a body...guess that flying people out to Hawaii gets canon....and i thought it was only the white canon lens that looks purdy

It wouldn't surprise me if the dpreview article significantly reduces Z7 sales, and has no impact on Canon R sales, which would be ironic for the reasons you indicate. I wonder if they will do a front page article on "Canon R poor DR"? Of course they won't.
One might think that dpreview is run by computing geeks rather than photographers. Surely not.

I'm skeptical of how far we can assume the former from the latter. MILC assembly is way more automated than DSLR assembly, they could just be able to build them a lot faster.

My question is, how stupid someone should be, not to buy this camera, because you get some banding when you push shadows for 6-stops.
I said it once, but I'll repeat it, internet is great, but internet is pile of crap too!
I don't remember TN and other talkingheads making a big of deal when A7RIII was discovered with the same issue last year, if it's an issue at all.
I'm with Charles on random color noise issue, that would make me way more concerned than this banding issue, you can see it even at lower ISO setting, the colors are not right on that camera.
I personally think, that there is a serious campaign against Nikon, and Nikon needs to address this with more public appearance, to explain certain situations.
Saying no word means you're accepting it as a fact, IMO.
I personally don't care, because I don't loose money from my pocket, I'll get a Z6 regardless what DPR, TN and others say, I can make judgment on my own, but Nikon should...

I disagre, D850 is a much superior and more versatile camera . The Z7 will be a good travel/ portrait/landscape camera. Not a good camera for sports/wildlife. The af-c seems to be lacking but I'm sure they'll improve it with the z710.

It does seem as if dpreview have an anti-Nikon agenda, as they must realise what they are doing.
