There is no focus confirmation for manual lens even ZF.2 type. I hope this is not intentional omit from Nikon, otherwise I have less a reason to keep it in the future.

Focus confirmation works with my Nikon 45mm 2.8P (manual focus lens made for the FM3) and Voigtlander CV40mm f2 (chipped version)
Have not checked my other ZF.2 lenses yet.

Why are the Leica/240 comparisons different in size/crop on the same lens.

If they are all 100% crops then it's because the Z7 has more MP.

If you cut out a 1000px wide pice from an image then from the Z7 it covers roughly 1/8 of the width of the Z7 sensor (landscape) and 1/6 of the M240 sensor so the M240 crop covers a larger part of the full image and hence the Z7 crop looks more magnified since you see a smaller part at the same size.

Are you displaying the Histogram in the view finder or are you just judging by what you see in the VF?

Just judging by what I see as I have the Apply Settings to Live View set. I thought that means I would see the actual exposure.

Agreed he’s very friendly & unresponsive. But I’ve harassed them enough and I’m kind of indifferent here, I just thought I’d toss it out there for those looking to use Leica on Nikon.

I have spoken to Ilija a lot in the past particularly changing sensor covers on the A7r and I found him very helpful and knowledgeable. Maybe try to call him directly as his knowledge base is amazing

Question:
When I shoot with adapted lenses, the uploaded images are much darker than what I see in the VF. I have the setting d8 Apply Settings to Live View set. Monitor to auto brightness.
This includes the image that is shown on the camera's back screen on playback. It is up to 2 stops brighter than the uploaded file. I am using the Adbobe DNG converter as LR 6 does not support Z7 NEFs.

What happens if you turn auto-brightness off? It is possible one setting is overriding another. I think I turned auto everything off before my first shutter activation, but I seem to recall seeing a difference in screen and output early on. It's gone now and all brightness levels are set to not be auto. Might the settings be affected by the custom lens length and f/number as well, like the IBIS is?

Nice comparison, and the reason why I like SLR WA primes on MILC. Yes, the Elmarit-M is smaller than the D28, but the latter just works. Not quite sure what's going on with the Ai-S wide open in the corner, though.

My Voigtlander 90/3.5 SLII F-mount (factory chipped) doesn't have the green circle indicator, and the focus point box doesn't change color. Peaking, magnification, and IBIS all work well.

My Voigtlander 180/4 SL F-mount, aftermarket chipped (dandelion? I'm not sure on the details) DOES have the green circle, and the focus point box DOES change color. Peaking and magnification also work. Unfortunately, I suspect that IBIS DOES NOT work properly for mysterious reasons. I'm doing some experiments with putting a piece of tape over the contacts to make it an 'unchipped' lens, and IBIS appears to work better like that (with non-CPU information entered). However, that also turns off the green dot and focus box changes. I'd like to do more formal testing, taking many shots and seeing how many are sharp at critical shutter speeds, but the air quality in Oakland is too nasty right now.

All in all, a definite disappointment. I like the green dot for uncritical accuracy, such as street photography, and I definitely like IBIS for the 180mm. As it is, I may have to choose between the benefits of chipping and the benefits of IBIS...hrmph.

Almost finished my family trip to Grand Canyon, monument valley, Zion and Bryce Canyon NP. I will be back home tomorrow and hopefully share some images here. Though I am sure web image will not do justice for 45M Z7’s gorgeous files.

One thing for sure, the more I use it, the more I like it. After this trip, Z7 is totally become THE best tool I ever used from any camera. It officially replaced RX1 at 35mm range with 24-70 zoom that offers even more. (I know it lose the size and F2 but 90% of my RX1 images are stop down )I have never used any camera give me so high keeper rate in term of sharpness and repeatability. I constantly hand hold image at 1/10-1/15 with 70mm get sharp image at pixel level. The whole trip I only used my Gitzo tripod single time with less than 10 images. I clicked about 1000 images and I got totally maybe 10-20 blurred or wrong focused images. This was never happened for me with any other cameras. I have a habit that usually take a few images with same thing with Nikon SLR, especially important ones just in case there will be a few either misfocused or blurred images. The slower the speed, the more image I took. With Z7, I found out I just get pretty much all the same images that sharp to pixel level for them all, even at 1/10-1/30s.

For the images I will share in this thread, if they are 16:9 or 2:1, 2.35:1 that means it was shot and composed with 16:9 mode originally. If they are 5x4, 1X1 they were also shot native this way. And most my family images were shot with Mraw.

I cancelled my Z6 order last minute before Adorama ship it to me. It was a good decision. There is no way Z6 will work for me once I were there with 45M with so many format ratio and Raw option. MP240 take many of my wide angle shots in this trip. Though I think another Z7 will be added once 14-30 wide angle zoom announced. Changing lens in family trip just doesn’t work very well for me.

I see some post regarding 24-70. I stay with my original comment about it. It is a set of prime glass in tiny package. Maybe it is the way I use it. For zoom, I almost never shoot WO for landscape. It is so sharp and so reliable with almost zero CA and FC in field make it my all time favorite zoom. There is no weakness in entire zoom range. It covers 80% of my all images taken.

I do still miss OVF for viewing, but I’d love to make some trade off by gaining digital level and histogram in VF.

It is a great tool not only because it give me high IQ sharp images reliably but also I have zero confusion to find any feature needed quickly. It is totally disappeared in field for me, THE BEST TOOL I’d say and it is worth every penny IMHO.

Hmm....so far I only got the focus confirmation dot and focus square box to change color in manual focus only with Nikon lenses only such as 105/1.4e and my 70-180 AF-D. My 50/1.2 and Noct Nikkor 58/1.2 did not have confirmation dot nor did my Otus 85/1.4 zf.2 or Milvus 35/1.4 zf.2 .
A bit of a bummer as I think focus dot is more reliable than focus peaking alone but peaking with magnifier is still the most accurate but takes more time to check focus.

Can't believe this lens is most likely as old as I am if not older. One of the best bargain in lense, I think.

I dug into it a bit more with exiftool and noticed that the Voigt 90 SLII was registering a Lens Type as "AF" and the Voigt 180 SL was showing as "G".

My hypothesis is that Nikon is limiting the focus box indicator to specific classes of their lenses. Since it works fine with the 180, it obviously doesn't need distance information or anything--it appears to be a completely Nikon-imposed restriction. Booooo Nikon. But I don't know why some Voigtlander SLII have indicators and some don't.

IBIS performance definitely improved when I "dechipped" it--masking tape over the first (power) pin--making it a completely dumb lens. Guessing this because "G" lenses get different handling of IBIS on the FTZ. I tried to access the dandelion programming mode to see what would happened if I toggled the "AF" setting on the chipo, but I wasn't able to enable it. I'm guessing going through the FTZ interferes. Unfortunately, I don't have a Nikon DSLR on hand to try to program this with--I'm still considering my options there.
