The new Voigtlander 110/2.5 APO Lanthar 1:1 Macro is amazing
not only it is compact and only slightly larger than the 65/2 APO Lanthar,
optical performance is predicted to be much better than the legendary
Voigtlander 125/2.5 APO Lanthar!
The compact 21/3.5 FE is predicted to compare well with the Loxia 21mm,
in a smaller package at a much more attractive price.
Both lenses are of interest to me, but particularly so the 21/3.5 as the Loxia, thought pretty darned good, is a bit of a pain to haul up into the mountains. So if this lens is 90% as good then I'm sold, particularly if you can point it into the sun with impunity and make great sun stars at f/8. We'll see.
I'm sure the 110/2.5 is a stunner, but I really wish it was 125 or 135mm . . . .

Yes. The 110 might replace my 90 G macro. I’ll be carefu, though...that is a great lens at macro distances if you have a good copy, and I do, and can’t imagine going to the trouble of finding another one if I ever regret selling.

I have little doubt that the CV110 will be a very fine lens. I was just curious if the comment was based on any information we haven't heard about before.

Just to clarify, my comment on Phillip's post was just an attempt to be funny, which is always dangerous on the internet. I too expect the CV 110 to be excellent and I plan to order it immediately when it becomes available and I don't do that very often with any lens. As to the 65 f/2 being an unusual focal length, I am not sure I buy that. For MF 120 f/4 macros have traditionally been the staple for the format and if you look at the FF 35mm equivalent of those lenses you get something very similar to 65 f/2 (68 f/2.2 if cropped to 4 X 3 and 64 f/2.1 if cropped to 4 X 5). I think the 65 f/2 actually works out great as a macro after using it for awhile, but that doesn't take away at all from my wanting the CV 110.

Phillip, the poster "cameraquest" whom you were probably questioning in you last post is the Voighlander distributor in the U.S. The owner Stephan is a class act. I think he would know a thing or two more about these two lenses than most... I may trade my Loxia 21 for the Cv21 if it's very good and priced right. I don't use f2.8 on the Loxia anyway. But used Loxia 21 sells between $1000-$1100 here in the U.S., if the CV 21 is priced anywhere near that, then I will keep my Loxia.

I know and that's why I was curious. Could Stephan actually do some tests?
The CV UWAs are not as good off center as the Loxias but of course also more difficult to design. So it is hard to guess how well it will perform compared to the Loxia.

It looks like availability for these lenses is still months away but I'm also very curious to know how they perform and compare to other lenses. It's likely that the 110/2.5 APO will be outstanding optically just based on the 65/2 APO but we can't be sure until testing it. Take the Lox 25 as an example...It looks like the Lox 21 is better color corrected and this performance was not expected.
The new CV 21 is definitely a wild card. Nobody knows how good it's going to be. It will be a challenge for it to beat the Loxia but we'll see.

I cannot imagine the CV 21 would beat the Loxia, but man I love the Voigtlander character! Not as fast, It would have to be cheaper, maybe 699$?
Going by the prices for the CV10, CV12 and CV 15 I would expect $899 at least.

If you want a state of the art f2.8 there’s already the Loxia. And Tokina make a good f2.
This lens justifies itself by slightly reduced cost and size, and that (especially the size) requires less speed.

They know it's a crowded field these days and they tend to the low side of what their lenses are worth, so $1150 max. The 65mm was a tougher task in design terms, and goes for $999. CV are taken in by the legend status much less than the user community.
