It's good to be back home, even though I hated to leave Costa Rica.
Guys, I'm ready for a fall event. Nov 4/5 or 11/12, if anyone has a destination in mind for a day trip or weekend. I'll start looking into some locations this week.
Hi guys! Long time no see! I would love to get together with "y'all"! I have to work both Saturdays mentioned, but am available both Sundays. I'll check back here and can hopefully at least join up for the day!
Gary, your shots from Costa Rica look great! Someday, I want to join you on one of your globetrooting jaunts!
Tracey-I'm headed back to Kenya next June, would love to have you join the Safari.
OK.......looks as if next Sunday 11/5, weather not being an issue, should make for for a good day. I haven't been to E.L. Huie in a while, so for anyone that would like to take a chance at some migratory birds, let's go for it.
Hopefully this will work with everyone's schedule.
Well, we spent the weekend at Tannehill park near Birmingham. Each year they have a big Halloween festival. We finally had a chance to go this year. Most of these folks get to the campground 3 weeks early to get a good spot and to have time to set up. Some of them spend thousands of $$ on their sites. We got a late start getting out and about so I have a lot of very flashy shots and they are just snaps so keep that in mind if you decide to check them out.
There were about 400 campers crammed into the campground and between 8000 and 10,000 people attended and trick or treated. it was quite the zoo...
Speaking of zoo's, we stopped by the Botanical garden to take a few pics of a friends new baby. The garden is next door to the B-ham zoo and looks like it would make a good weekend destination maybe next spring. We didn't really get a chance to check out the gardens as the baby was in charge of the timetable and after about 20 minutes she decided we were through being there. You parents know how it goes...
Anyway, here is a shot of one guys site. All of the creatures were animated and very detailed. later he got his fog machine working (one of many fog machines in the park) and it looked even spookier. Lots of folks had mini scary tents set up that the kids had to go through to get candy. Lots of fun for the little ones...
We should make a day trip to Little River Canyon, Alabama it would be great at this time of year. It has a waterfall and a scenic drive of the canyon. I think its one of the deepest canyons on this side of the Mississippi River. Its about a 2hr drive only downside.
Desoto state park is nearby also. Never been to it.
I can go either Sat or Sunday but probably not both. Kinda depends on when Nancy gets back from being out of town. She has meetings in Athens until Friday. If they break out early I can probably be there SAturday. If she gets out late it would be Sunday.
I can probably make either day as long as I know a day or two in advance. I have been to Little River Canyon a couple of times but it was during my film days so I would love to shoot it again in digital.
Anyone interested in the Blue Angels Homecoming air show in Pensecola November 10 & 11. I will be in Seagrove Beach about 60 miles away (roughly an hour drive) and plan on going. This is supposed to be their best show since they are based in Pensecola and its their last show of the year.
Gary, Glad you made it back with some great images. I will have to plan on this trip in the future.
Tracey, Love the Halloween images and processing. Hope the kids have their outfits out and are ready for trick or treating. How was the MS Ride?
Mark, Must be quite a celebration at the Tannehill Park and Sonny looks like he's a little hot under the collar in that photo. Still thinking something will change so I can make a Thanksgiving trip.
Robert, Hope to see you at the Canyon.
Andrew, Welcome to the forum. Hope to meet you soon.
Hey Grant, I could probably be talked in to going for both days if I knew a motorhome would join me in the camp ground at DeSoto Park. There is some good scenery there as well...
If anyone else wanted to stay overnight they have a lodge there as well
