Hi guys...I have not talked to any of you in awhile. I hope everyone is doing well.
Grant, It looks like you had fun at the horse show. I wish I could have joined you. Todd, I am really impressed by your bird shots! You have a lot more patience than me!
I just wanted to touch base with everyone and say hi. Where and when are we going next?
It has rained the past two Saturdays, so I talked Chuck into letting me practice on him... http://traceylong.smugmug.com/photos/63241645-L.jpg
Hi Tracy, Chuck should be proud of this one. He's a better looking guy than I thought. Love that pose too.
I enjoyed the Horse show and its the first time I have actually watched them jumping over a competitive course. The horses were some of the prettiest I have seen.
I am leaving for Florida for a few days tonight and will be gone until the middle of next week so I won't be able to join in on anything this weekend. We need to get another shoot of some kind together soon though. Robin mentioned Tallulah Falls as a good spring time location and there is a trail near there called Panther Creek trail that leads to a beautiful waterfall about a mile and a half in. Three mile round trip and mostly level so it's not hard. We might consider this or other things in that general area.
Tallulah Gorge. Toccoa Falls. Panther Creek. Maybe we can plan to hit two or three of these. I wonder what the weather will be like next weekend. Do you think it will be green enough? Remember, Tour de Georgia is after that.
I reacently moved to the Atlanta area, actually, the Gwinnett area close to The Mall of Georgia and would like to join you guys in some shooting so please keep me up to date on any events. Today Thunderstorms and almost tornado winds but I hope next weekend it will be better.
Took this from the pier at St. Andrews State Park today.

Used a variety of different settings but I like this one best.
Rich, Welcome to the Atlanta Forum. Keep watching the Atlanta Base Photographers thread and find out when the next get together will be. We would love to have you join in.
Tracey, I was checking out a friend's 17-55 on his D200 today because I'm waiting for the Canon 17-55 in May. I wanted to get a feel for the focal length. That combination(D200 and 17-55 f/2.8) had a really nice feel. Shhhh. Don't tell my Canon buddies I said that.
The Spring Break crowd has left town. So nice at the Beach now. No waits at restaurants and very few people on the beach. It will be like this until Memorial Day when the Summer crowds start coming in. There is a Rookery in the middle of Gator lake at St Andrews State Park but I didn't bring my 500mm and extenders so the 100-400mm just doesn't have the reach to get anything worth posting. Just too far away. There are both eggs and young in the nests.
Here's a shot just to give you a look at the rookery and a 2nd shot of Seaside with all the traffic gone.
Thanks for the warm welcome. I live by I -85 Exit 120 so how do you get to these places ( Tallulah Gorge. Toccoa Falls. Panther Creek ) ? Do we have a group who are going? I just moved last month and still learning about the area.
Grant..your sunset shot is a beauty! Great composition! It looks like you are having fun at the beach. I like to go when there are no crowds, too. Before the kids were born, Chuck and I always went in January!
I won't tell, Robin
Rich...people get together every few weeks. It is a great group. I have not met them all, but you won't find friendlier, more enthusiastic, more helpful folks anywhere! As far as how to get to these places, I am afraid I am not much help. I have lived here less than a year myself.
nothing spectacular about this shot except it was hand held at 1/20th. And, this is supposed to be the waterfall that Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner fell over in Romancing the Stone

Richman,
I live just a little further up I-85 in Suwanee. The Tallullah Gorge area is up I-985 to Gainesville and then Hwy 23 the rest of the way. It's about 70 miles from where I live.
I wouldn't mind going this Saturday if anyone is interested. I can drive. Let me know if anyone wants to go on Saturday. It would probably be just about the whole day. Leave early and get back while there's still daylight.
Robin
PS. Mark, I like the composition on the flower. Nice.
The auto photos are from a show at Stone Mountain on April 1. The others are from April 9 on the top of Stone Mountain. One wide angle shot and then just experimenting with the fisheye:
Thanks Robin, the botanical garden was really nice. It's too bad we were with a large, fast moving group. I really didn't have time to stop and shoot a lot.
I like the red ford pic, gonna have to try the fisheye thing someday.
