Thanks, Doug. I really don't want to give it any more "drama". I prefer it the way it is now. What do the others think?

Who me?

Now that I've aquired the skills to fool the Walmart staff, I just need to learn to take pictures that will fool the FM forum people.

The gorge would be great. Haven't had a chance to be there for 5 or 6 years. Sounds like a good excuse for a trip.

I'll be happy to drive from Suwanee to Tallulah Falls. I can carry three additional comfortably. Maybe more if necessary.(Highlander - 7 passenger, if they are midgets). I'd just prefer to wait until the place greens up a bit. Maybe late March to late April depending on the climate?

I wouldn't mind another cool weather zoo trip while the crowds are down.

As far as the Aquarium, the exif data is available on these scouting run photos. This may help in deciding which lenses to bring. It may also expose all of my mistakes.

Boblaw: very nice!

Robin, I agree about the timing. Green is good!

Looks like I might be in town on Sunday and the weather is supposed to be good. Any takers

I may stay up for this. Depends on where you guys go. On weekends daytime is my sleep time but I'd love to go shooting. I can sleep at work.

Well, I don't have any great ideas except maybe to head downtown to do some street work. Or maybe to one of the parks to shoot people/kids doing their thing. But really I am just open for anything

Maybe we should have a best parking meter contest

Robin,

Your aquarium photos are way better than mine. I got a couple keepers that I'll post soon....

Bob, I've gotten the majority of my songbird photos from my backyard as well. Unfortunately, I have a small city home with a fairly small backyard. Your hawk photo is great...I personally would clone out the branches that look they are coming out of his head. I'm learning from the serious bird photographers to strive for those cleaner backrounds. This can be quite challenging.

Look forward to seeing you guys soon. I'll see if I can meet up with you all this weekend.

-Todd

Are there any birds at EL Huie this time of year? Does the Botanical Garden have anything to shoot in the winter? What about the Coke plant or Underground Atlanta? Please keep in mind that I am new to the area and have not yet been to any of these places!

I am in awe of the bird in this photo. I'm not sure how objective I can be. It is a sharp photo and the bird has good hair and makeup birds. Every feather is in place. I do seem to be drawn to the tail that is cut off. I want to see the whole bird. I am with Todd on the fact that the idea is generally to do without extra limbs as much as possible. It always seems nice to have a limb with character to perch upon. This photo has that.

Only you know how the white balance should be. It seems a little warm, but, you were there...not me. It may be dead on for all I know.

I would probably put it in a gallery just like it is, unless I thought the WB should be different. But, what do I know?

Thanks for the comments, Robin. Yes, the white balance is on the warm side. Before RAW, I could put on a warming filter to achieve the effect that I wanted. It's just a matter of personal preference as to the balance and saturation of the shot and the removal of what some would consider extraneous material. As the shot in question was missing a very small piece of the tail, here is one with the full tail showing.

Here's one more view. In this one the tail is about completely cut off, but I chose to do so for this shot.

Tracey,

E L Huie is listed as a year around site, though I would guess that waterfowl may be the only birds there this time of year. I'll check back later to see if a destination has been made.

Cheers
Gary

Hi Robert, Congrats on the magazine photos. I will have to pick up this issue.

I would love to meet somewhere tomorrow but I am still fighting off the flu bug and definitely don't want to pass it on to anyone. We may get something together on a trip to Tennessee for the Sandhill Crane Migration later on this month. (See Hiwasee Wildlife Refuge thread in this forum) Also would anyone be able to make an Aquarium meet during the week? Should be fewer people there on a weekday.

Mark, I see you already know about the Crane migration so I hope to see you there if we nail down a date.

Bob, That's a terriffic Hawk shot. Maybe we could come hang out around your yard for a photo shoot.

Take care,

Grant
