It was 4:00 in the morning the other night when i was editing and posting images from Sugarloaf - so I quit early - i was only half way through the pile... Saw this one today and it sorta caught my eye.
Makes me think of the guards at the gates of Mordor...
Yeah - I talked Jim W into buying a 300 2.8 and he absolutely loves it... then he turned around and got the 800 to balance his other arm. He'll be shooting one 1ds with the 800 and the other with the 300. The guy must be Popeye in disguise!
JonU - I'm jealous. Great shots though - glad you get to enjoy that - the 50L looks sweet!
JonB - great shot - the one thing I do like about cake from a photography standpoint is it lights up the entire scene pretty well.
Marc - you're right, those are cakes cooking off. They make a lot of light low in the sky and they're pretty consistent - so you can generally get some good shots with them. Here's one from last year - you can see the smallish finale though.
Wow - what a beautiful piece of glass! Nice and buttery background, sharp as a tack foreground. What's not to love?
You gotta handle it with care - don't drop it or let it bump against anything else... protect it with all you've got. You'll get many years of service out of it - if you do everything right.
Nice behind the scenes fireworks shots guys.....question...did you wear ear buds? Man it must have been loud.
Colin - I love the 135 L....love love love it.....and your chick is cute. Nice! When she gonna pose for us?
Thoughts on the MKIII so far....It feels great in the hand like the MKII did. It focuses fast. It is much more sharper than the 40D straight out of the camera. It makes beautiful files. The menu system is very comfortable to me coming from the 40D. I think I will love the microadjustment feature. Fine tune my lens. So far I love it....but I am still in the honeymoon stage.
You should know better than that by now, Jon... its an addiction! ...and you have yet to get a1Ds Mark III... 21+ megapixels of sheer photographic perfection...
Canon is always going to have a brass ring to grasp out there - just out of reach...
the pipeline has probably skipped way past the Mk IIIn right on through to the Mark V - but if i said more... well, you know...
Deb got her first taste of shooting with lights last night. I set up the lights and explained what and how - she took the piccs... unfortunately she didn't have much for a model - so I gooned for her while playing mu guitars.
Here is the setup - though the background was all the way to the floor when shooting...
Ha - i let Debbie use me as her subject just cause my hair was getting long - i forgot about the mustache. Got the hair cut today and the nose hair gets trimmed in the morning.
That is my old 73 Deluxe LP - i don't get it out much anymore - but when i do, i really enjoy it.
One day i ought to get some of them out and do a "product" shoot with everyone. It would be fun - but only responsible parties would be welcome to come out. Sorta like DDawn - don't need a lot of strangers handling the merchandise... maybe just the Hard Labor ATL group and Tracey if she wants to come out. Stacy and DD too.
Might let Deb shoot me playing the 347 and the Tele tonight... if there is time. She shot/I played the Black Standard LP and the Deluxe, the Recording LP Bass and my Strat last night. Wanted to see how each one looks against the black background. Sunbursts always look good in my opinion. The Lp hadn't been out of the case in over 2 years and believe it or not it was reasonably still in tune... just a 1/2 step low on all strings. Don't remember if i detuned it before i put it away by 1/2 step. Strat was in tune when i picked it up and its been 3 months on the stand in the corner.
