Thanks guys. I'll be out of town most of next week. Perhaps the following weekend (Oct 1-2, or the 8-9). Let me know what works. Look forward to seeing you all again.
I'll definitely have a fish story to tell..........don't all fisherman? Us flyfisherman can really pour the coal to a good story, even if we have to embellish a bit.
I keep a watchful eye on this thread, sometimes a "." is required to see the latest post, I'm not sure as to the reason, I delete it as soon as there is a newer post.
Hi guys!
Todd..looks like you found a great spot. I really like the shot you posted. I hope we can all find a date to get together and go!
Greg...can't wait to hear how the Feisol works out. I'm looking for the Kirk BH-1 ballhead (looking for used, though), so I am anxious to hear how you like the BH-3.
Gary, have fun fishing...can't wait to hear the tales and see the pics!
We are headed to Disney Saturday for a week, so I'll have to wait 'til later to get together with everyone.
Thanks, Gary. My first outing didn't turn out so hot. I need LOTS of practice! My shoot for tomorrow night has been postponed until later in the season. I think that is a very good thing! I have found a couple of schools that are going to let me practice.
I appreciate all of your help and advice. Now, we just have to see if I am a good student or not! !
Doug: Taken from the overpass at Pleasant Hill Rd?
Next overpass North, Old Norcross Road. IIRC Pleasant Hill has catch fences, like most of the overpasses around here.
Gary: I had no idea the Gwinnett PD were so into photography!!
Uh-huh. At midnight they were so interested they sent 3 friendly officers to talk to One of them mentioned his Aunt was a professional film photog- I think that helped break the ice a little, it was easy from there.

They aren't so bad, unless it's qouta time for tickets and you are driving down pleasent hell.
I think I'm going to go back down to E.L.Huie tomorrow morning with another photography friend of mine. I was planning on leaving from my house (near lenox) around 7:30am. It should take me about 35-40 minutes to get down there. I think the light should be pretty good then and it won't be too hot. I would plan to leave there by around noon. If any other folks are interested perhaps you all could meet us down there. I'd be happy to post directions this evening. I believe there may also be directions on the website for the atlanta audubon society.
Having a car is somewhat of a plus there because the birds aren't as disturbed by the car as much as they are by humans for some reason. So two people shooting from the same side of the car could work well. (The two photos I posted were taken from my car window....though I shot lots of others out of the car walking around.) If you go remember to bring bug spray, suntan lotion and a hat. The place is totally out in the open with little cover from the sun. In one spot the bugs were all over me and my car....but in other spots there were none. Also, there were some cool butterflies and dragonflies for those with shorter lenses.
I'll check back later to see if there's any interest.
Will do Bob! Sorry you can't make it. If anyone else decides to come at the last minute we'll be there from around 8-noon.Would be great to meet others down there. I'll be driving a Toyota Highlander. When I was there last weekend I was the only one there except for the occasional dog walkers. So I shouldn't be too hard to find!
I'm going to work on trying to capture birds in flight with the 400 f/5.6....this time I think I'll leave off the Tamron 1.4x. We'll see if I can do any better. I'll keep you all posted.
