Bob.....excellent shots! # 1 is a good example of good results from the spot metering that you were talking about using. You also captured some beautiful shots of the birds.
Gary....your shots were super....great composition. Looks like you managed to get some excellent shots in spite of being handicapped with that gigantic CANON that you had to lug around everywhere.....
Tracey & Todd....I enjoyed perusing your superb collection of zoo shots on your respective sites offline from FM. I would encourage others to go look, if you've not already done so. Quite a treat! Incidentally, Tracey....I *do* have shots of the Barn Owl in flight....Of course, he's not in focus, but...minor matter....hehe.
Overall.....what a great outing! Like the rest of you, I'm certainly looking forward to our next adventure.
John....I hope you're doin' ok today.....not feeling too beat up, "the day after"....
Grant....Thanks so much for sharing your great Starlight car show shots....very nice work! I missed getting to meet you, yesterday.....'specially since I'm wanting to talk Feisol matters with you. If you don't mind, please drop me a PM, or an email, to let me know how to reach you.
Best regards to all....Thanks again to the "Zoo Crew" for allowing me to share your company....
Indeed you were. We must have been there at different times as there is a truck beside the Merc in your picture. I came in about 1:00 and left about 3:00 or 3:30.
Here is the other side of the Chopped Mercury.

John, sorry to hear about the accident but glad that you are OK. Six of us were there.
If the rest of you were wondering where I disappeared to, my camera stopped working. Finally figured out while having a grilled chicken sandwich at the on premises McDonald's that while changing the ISO I inadvertantly put the timer on. Got some shots of the tamarinds and kangaroos and then had to leave. Looking forward to everyone's postings.
Don't feel bad Bob, I have done this more than once. Looks like the 1600 ISO did pretty well though. Really good shots. Your No 7. is a Hamerkop. I really like to watch them as they are kind of comical. Sorry I missed the meet.
I was there then also. We prolly just walked pasted each other all day. Here is a link to most of my photos from that day.

When did they have the Burnouts? I missed them. Also looks like a lot of women that I didn't see came in later. The Girl with the Jeans and the orange top was there when I first arrived but I don't remember seeing any of the others. There is a couple of street rods that I don't remember seeing also. Maybe I left too soon. I shot about 60 pictures during the day and saw a lot of Point and shoot cameras but no one else with DSLR. You got some great shots.
Guys. Sorry I missed the shoot too. I was in St. Simons for the weekend and didn't get back in time. Hopefully next time I can make it.
Bob. Funny you should mention about forgetting to change the ISO. I did the same thing Friday morning. I got up and went to the pier with my new 300 F4. I looked at the first few shots and noticed something didn't look right. Fortunately I caught it too.
John, Sorry to hear about your accident but glad you are OK.
Here are a few of my shots from St. Simons though.

Its been an Atlanta tradition for years (since at least 97... )
Lets just say it is a four day event filled with interesting people
For any of you guys interested in bird photography, I went to E. L. Huie Water Facility in Clayton County on Saturday. I think it's a pretty good place to shoot particularly if you are interested in shore birds. I found it through the Atlanta Audubon Society. There are quite a few egrets and a couple of herons as well as ducks/mallards, etc. I was interested in trying to capture birds in flight with my new 400 f/5.6. I ended up using my 1.4x teleconverter and I didn't get any great flight photos. I guess I'm still on the lower end of that learning curve. I did get a couple keepers though. Here's one:
If anyone is interested in going back down there next weekend, I might be interested. If not, I think it should only get better during the fall and would be fun to try and plan a trip.
