Hi Jon...I really like these. The contrast and saturation really suit my eye.
I can't take any pics right now, because I am without a camera...My first D300 should be here tomorrow, but no lenses until Friday...
Jbear these are absolutely amazing photos. Not only is the location beautiful but your photo themselves speak for themselves, they are right on in every way possible.
I spent all weekend shooting with either the 300 or the 100-400 just for fun. Then went to Felinis for pizza tonight and had the 24-70 with me. Every time i have it with me - i try to capture something different about the scene. Here is tonights effort.
looks like one snake is biting the other
the big one was about 6 feet long - the smaller one about 4 - anyone wanna venture a guess as to what they are? There were a ton of kids in the water near here.
JB, that was 2 years ago for you? If I remember correctly they were in a heck of a drought out there then. Last winter they had some record snowfalls and we were fortunate to get there after it had been in the 60's and sunshiney for a whole week. That really helped with the meltoff. We were suprised that there wasn't more snow than there was. They were still in a snow chain requirement mode but there was zero snow from mid range down.
Yellowstone is really calling my name...I can't decide if I want to go during the winter to track the wolves, or the summer to track everything else.
I saw a show on one of the HD channels a few weeks back where they were there during Christmas. They have a really neat program at the main lodge that I would really like to attend someday
No - that was last July - 2007. I remember since I played golf at Pebble on the 4th in 52 degree California warmth. It kicked my butt so bad, i quit playing last summer and have only played 5 or 6 times since.
JU, all you gotta do is going Southwest Airlines all the money you made this year and they will take you out there...
JB, we took the drive through there. It was really nice but I guess it was sea lion birthing season or something and a bunch of the area was fenced off.
A nice area but really windy a lot of the time. I couldn't imagine playing there all the time.
You guys are funny! The kids are allowed to be cute again! My first D300 arrived today The only problem is that none of my lenses will be here until later in the week. My neighbor let me borrow the kit lens that came with his D40 so I could click off a few snapshots (so the DT's from not handling a camera would stop).
Hi guys. I went with Uhler to the APG meeting tonight. I am still using the kit lens and have not cracked the manual open yet, but I got one shot of a model I liked. Let me know what you think...I have never done anything like this before http://traceylong.smugmug.com/photos/302671405_hLK2Y-L.jpg
I keep hearing about these APG meetings but always seem to forget about them. They sound interesting - I might have to try to make it out to one of them!
Hey T, a couple of nice pics. On the APG pic I'm not fond of how her left arm looks. I mention this only because I always miss that kind of stuff when I am shooting.
JU, I hope to add a 135 to my list someday. I have a sigma 150 that I love for macro and a few other things so the 135 would almost be a duplicate but I love the colors out of the 135 and that focal length + 2.0 is a killer combo...
Don't you think it might be a tad long though? Traditionally a portrait lens is 85 to 105 in length on a full frame. On a crop, that 135 is about what 200 to 220 - somewhere in there? Might as well use the 70-200 - which most of us already have and control where you plant your feet to the room/space you are working.
That's my nit pic about the 100 2.8 - I'm often in rooms that are too small to shoot it on a crop body. 1.3 or 1.6
Still - color and bokeh come into play, and if you have the room to move around and get the shot angle you want - its a great lens. For me it would be a tweener - that's why I've never wanted one. For those who believe primes set the moon - thats cool too!
But as is always the case with the dark side - saturation... or should i say over saturation... I think she is wearing entirely too much blue!
Otherwise than that - she's a very pretty girl!
I'm with Mark too - maybe her hand on her hip might look more normal.
