After playing with my new rIII for a few days....I can say its an excellent camera. But if I didn't need the extra AF and operational speed for my business....it would make great sense to stick with rII, which is retrospect, is still an amazing piece at a much lower price level.

All good points. I figured out that I have two separate needs, but not usually at the same time, so kept the A7Rii and will receive the A9 next week.

We have an amazing ability to quickly get used to new functionality and speed. After a week with the A7R III, it will be very hard to shoot with the A7R II.
Regarding IQ, I agree though.
It would be great if the A7R3 had the option to assign the 'record button' to something else in 'still shooting' mode. I would use it for EyeAF instead of using the AEL button.

I'm having a bit of a different sensation. After using the A9 (mostly in silent mode) for some time now, when I use the A7rIII in AF-C, HI FPS I see the blackout and hear/feel the mechanical shutter, something I never noticed on the A7r2 before. I guess its all relative to what we are used to.
Been spending the last few days comparing A9 with A7rIII. First impressions? What a pair of cameras Not sure I could ever give up either...until of course the A9II and/or the A7rIV comes out.

I was thinking Pixel shift and I can’t figure it out either

How do you get out of magnified mode? Half press doesn't work. Is this the same for the rII?
Half-press does not work if you have "AF in Focus Mag." enabled. You'll have to press magnification button again to cancel. Or disable "AF in Focus Mag." to make it work like in RII.

Anybody else super happy about USB 3.1 in the new A7rIII ? Now 42MPs files moving at top speeds directly from the A7rIII to our computers. Yippee-yi-o-ki-yay ! Oh and no more fumbling with which side to fit into the Camera...but no such luck on the USB side into the computer USB slot. But okay I'll fumble 50% less now

Pretty cool. Didn't know that.
I like half press not taking me out of magnification mode. It means that when you have focused, taking the picture is much quicker, or at least feels that way. It means you don’t do that little bit of composition adjustement which might degrade your focus before getting the shot. So the trick is compose first, then move the focus box to where you want to focus, magify focus and shoot.

I was taken aback by the half-press taking away the magnification, but I apparently forgot how many times that annoyed me that I was just used to it. Now I can be at 100% and snap the image if I want or I can go back to full view first - I have a choice.
Lots of cool new things to get used to.
The A7RII needs to go on the local CL tomorrow . . . . someone is going to get a deal for sure.
@DavidBM and @jhinkey,
Same here. At first I didn't like it but got used to the half-press not affecting the magnification mode. It's nice to have the option though.

The handling and speed are quite noticeable to the point that if you shoot with the newer model, you will see how slow the Rii actually is. Then there's the battery life....

Exactly!
Been suggesting this in every sony forum since A9 came out. But they seem to not notice. If you can reach them, I think they'll listen to you.
Besides, if the FN key can be customizable in shooting mode too, I can be happier. The position of the FN key is very valuable, it's better to be assigned to some AF related function, like Recall Custom Hold. I personally am OK with FN menu function assigned to another place say C4.
If the record button and the FN key can be customizable, we can get 5 keys in total good for AF-ON, which are [AF-ON], [AEL], [Record], [FN], and [Center]. With Recall Custom Hold function and Eye-AF, we can get 5 well positioned AF-ON buttons bound up with different AF areas and focus modes, which is kind of a dream for me. I don't even have to assign an AF area button.
If that became true, I'll assign [AF-ON] key to [AF-ON], [AEL] key to [Recall Custom Hold 1(RCH1) with Wide focus area in AFC], [Center] key to [RCH2 with Small Flexible Spot at the center of the frame in AFS], [Record] button to [RCH3 with Lock-on AF Center in AFC], and [FN] key to [EYE-AF]. Imagine how convenient is that.

Exactly my thoughts. Bought it for the business. Super happy I did though! What an upgrade from the r2!
