It would be great if the A7R3 had the option to assign the 'record button' to something else in 'still shooting' mode. I would use it for EyeAF instead of using the AEL button.
Exactly!
Been suggesting this every sony forum since A9 came out. But they seem to not notice. If you can reach them, I think they'll listen to you.
Besides, if the FN key can be customizable in shooting mode too, I can be happier. The position of the FN key is very valuable, it's better to be assigned to some AF related function, like Recall Custom Hold. I personally am OK with FN menu function assigned to another place say C4.
If the record button and the FN key can be customizable, we can get 5 keys in total good for AF-ON, which are [AF-ON], [AEL], [Record], [FN], and [Center]. With Recall Custom Hold function and Eye-AF, we can get 5 well positioned AF-ON buttons bound up with different AF areas and focus modes, which is kind of a dream for me. I don't even have to assign an AF area button.
If that became true, I'll assign [AF-ON] key to [AF-ON], [AEL] key to [Recall Custom Hold 1(RCH1) with Wide focus area in AFC], [Center] key to [RCH2 with Small Flexible Spot at the center of the frame in AFS], [Record] button to [RCH3 with Lock-on AF Center in AFC], and [FN] key to [EYE-AF]. Imagine how convenient is that.
