Agree and what does it matter at all. All your trying to do here is increase the detail from a single shot coming out of the camera you have in your hands. Example i use the CV 65 APO on my A7rIII can i increase the detail using the pixel shift. Nothing else matters folks your shooting Sony stop looking over your shoulder at other systems. It’s meaningless this is the camera you bought. I’m going back into hibernation. This stuff is getting too silly.

Good point, also: The pixel shift has more chromatic aberration. Is that down to the FE 85 f/1.8?
Yes, it is...so we are no only comparing pixel shift vs non-pixel shift but also lens/sensor IQ.
In my view, to see the benefits of this new feature, we should remove all variables and only compare pixel shift vs non-pixel shift using the same camera system. (camera + lens)

Exactly. Anything else means nothing to a Sony shooter. All we care about is the gain we can dig out of a pixel shift grouping compared to a single shot. Now if it’s a 20 percent gain or more than we need to use it more often when it counts. We also need to see this software on what kind of options we have for use.

The dpreview article does that, along with including samples from other cameras w/pixel-shift as well.

Yes, the article's first comparison was very useful. (Pixel-shift vs Standard with A7R III + same lens)
I was referring to the other sections where other systems are compared.
Is Sony's Imaging Edge available for download somewhere? The A7R III started shipping in China and it would be nice to take a look at it.

David Kilpatrick deftly bells the cat in honest commentary that has been so hard to find:
'Sony implementation also appears to need almost half a second between each of the four subframes, requiring a tripod and roughly *2 seconds of capture time.*'
Even slow walkers cover several metres in two seconds, let alone foliage, water etc. So we are back to an 'end of world' multi-second 4x5 simulation - totally still clear days. Then get to work on the software, scouring the final composite for artefacts, because you know the s/w will be flaky. Sony's s/w is 'clunky' but just wait until Adobe...sure, right. And how fast must shutter speed be? Another variable.
'Regular normal 42 megapixel AA-free shots on a top grade lens are all you need. I’ll repeat that bit about top grade lens.' DK again, the naughty man.

I don't think this will be useful outside reproduction or studio work with still subjects. I think Sony already sold it that way during the presentation, if memory does not fail me, two seconds between exposures, it is tricky for landscape photography...

Someone posted on DPR that B&H has 3,000 pre-orders and that they have ordered even more for general inventory. B&H probably carries some weight with Sony as a major vendor, but I hope they don't suck the pond dry for the rest of us!
doesn't matter, suppliers don't play favoritess, BH might get 5-10 extra, but the way it works is every store will get them, even if BH would have 5 million on preorder they would never send entire inventory to one store.
with items like this is best to get from local small retailers, avoid the big buck stores.

anyone heard any rumors that a7riii might be shipping on wednesday from some stores?
I wish. Also heard of a rumor that we might see the A7RIII start shipping on the 20th. However there was also a rumor that the A7RIII would have 70-80 megapixels whenever it was announced. So much for rumors I guess.

I have to agree, I had the pleasure of using a Pentax K1 for a few months and only used the Pixelshift feature a couple of times and it wasn't great with any movement at all, I don't think it takes two seconds either - personally agree - 42mp with good glass is more than sufficient!

Any idea if BHPhoto has enough stock to meet pre-orders?
I have 2 bodies on order. But I placed mine on the 9th?
Base on past experience, B&H appears to have a favored relationship with Sony, so even with a large volume of preorders I could bet they have a greater chance of fulfilling their orders vs other vendors.

Is the Europe availability date tomorrow?
Has anyone heard if the North America availability might improve? I find it odd that Sony is releasing this two weeks earlier in Europe if that’s really the case.
