p.1 #1 · Pre-orders open! Sony A7R III and FE 24-105mm f/4 OSS lens!
Sony just announced the all new A7R III full-frame camera. Packing the same 42.4 Megapixel Back-Illuminated CMOS sensor as its predecessor but stuffed with a number of significant improvements inside.
Now capable of 4k HDR video and 10fps continuous shooting with autofocus, it also hosts an improved circuit design that claims to deliver 15 stops of dynamic range.
Both mechanical and electronic shutter modes support 14-bit RAW, and the built-in stabilization now handles 5.5 stops of compensation. Pixel Shift Multi Shooting mode capturing four frames is a new feature that allows the removal of demosaic and false color artifacts in post-production. It should also improve resolution and color fidelity.
The A7R III sensor shares the same 399-point PDAF system as the previous A7R II, but includes an additional 425 contrast-based detection AF points. Auto-focus speed, subject tracking and EyeAF now operate at double the speed, while light levels is down to -3EV.
This camera shoots bursts at up to 10 fps using either the mechanical or silent electronic shutter. For video, 4K HDR recording is available in both full-frame or Super-35 modes. In addition the option of S-Log 3 and Hybrid Log Gamma HDR, as well as 1080 at 120 frames per second is included.
The new Mark III shares many A9 features like dual SD slots, AF joystick, AF-ON button, PC Sync port, Quad VGA OLED viewfinder, and the NP-FZ100 battery pack. The screen is touch-sensitive and there’s both USB-2 and USB-3 ports. Unfortunately PlayMemories apps are no longer supported.

Sounds like my A9 pretty much. Slower capture which Im fine but still silent which I love. Couple other nice features as well USB 3. Dual slots, A9 battery. I might be in. I’ll sell my A9 for it. One concern is AF speed and low EV on it for low light stuff.all I anted was a A9 with 42mpx all along and looks like I got it. 15 stops is nothing to sneeze at either. I do want the zoom too. Might get that first

I'm disappointed because I wanted a 24MP A7III.
After 2 years with the A7RII (sold it just in time) my personal conclusion was that I don't like the sterile look of a 42MP sensor. I prefer the look/tonality of sensors with bigger pixels.

Start getting the fast cards folks. I have Sony’s now for my A9 and they work great. I can keep my extra A9 batteries, extension grip and maybe my L bracket.

Looks like the perfect upgrade for me. Love the A7r2 sensor, dislike the turtle part of the camera. Really looking forward to read about first impressions regarding AF speed and operational speed.

I operated under the assumption that they would announce an a7iii today. Instead those suckers come up with the camera I always wanted, an e-mount version of the a99ii that allows me to combine my landscape and wildlife cams into one setup. Damn you, Sony, now I have to find a way to fund that thing.

Final stroke: selling all Zeisses. All Canons.
Now a piece of good advice on lenses for this marvel is precious. So far I've decided on the MF section. Laowa 15, Lox 21, CV40 1.2 Nokton and CV65/2 Apo. But have still to feed the new AF of this new release with a good set
