I think that's the concept. You might want to have the reader connected to a computer on which you store a copy of the files before you delete them.

I always remove card from camera to sd card reader onto computer than put card back in camera and format on the camera.
I would not delete files from the card using the computer. I always format after I got everything backed up.
Good here to be boring as hell and always do the same thing. Muscle memory type thing.
One little trick I do when in the field and I’m going through several cards. In in my SD card wallet if a card is shot and not uploaded to computer I turn the card over. This way I know every time that card is a do not touch until I get on computer. Simple and effec I’ve from screwing up little trick
And I NEVER download from camera directly to computer.

This is a area where many screw up and do different things with there SD cards and files. It’s almost a religious thing and always do exactly the same thing. I back my raw images up onto three drives before I even think about formatting the cards. Again really get a routine going and stick to it.
Nice thing about the dual cards slots for me is slot 1 is raws and slot 2 is fine jpegs. So I just let slot 2 go until the card maybe full than clean it out knowing I already have my raws. I don’t use the jpegs. It’s strictly in case Slot 1 card files. Folks will do different things here. Maybe Slot 2 would be video files. Several ways to set this up. Also let’s assume everything like this using the A9 will be the same on the A7rIII. So what we have learned on the A9 we can take to the A7r3.

I’m curious, If you don’t use the JPEGs, why not save duplicate RAWs to both cards so you have an in-camera backup if one card fails? Does it really impact performanceor is a JPEG backup acceptable if a card fails? It seems a lot of pros were really pushing for dual slots for redundancy/backup purposes, so it’s interesting to hear you don’t feel the need for it.
Personally, I’m using mine for travel photography (mostly) so I’ll probably do what you’re doing - fast card for RAW and slow card for JPEGs. I do transfer the occasional JPEG ‘shot of the day’ to my phone to share.

Has anyone heard anything / seen anything about aspect ratios available on the R3? 4:3 would make it an instant purchase but soy doesn't seem to want to implement this feature.

Why would they want to implement a 4:3 ratio image file? Just crop it in post is going to be their reply to that feature request.

Because i'm old fashioned and like to compose in my final aspect ratio if I can, I just find it easier. It would be an extremely simply feature to add.

It would be a very simple feature to implement. Actually the RX1RII with the same 42MP sensor offers 4:3 aspect ratio.

It looks like the A7RIII will be available on November 30th (Thursday) and perhaps ship the same day or next day (Friday). Has anyone paid for next day shipping or the free expedited shipping is good enough? For me here in California, it would mean getting the camera 5 days later.

Does that slow jpg card slow the fps and/or write speed to the UHS-II card ? I always have flashbacks to the 5Diii and actually pulling out the SD card if I wanted top frame rate.

I had paid for express overnight shipping to LA but I’ve cancelled my B&H preorder. I’m travelling to South America via LA on the 3rd of Dec and was going to have them ship to my hotel in LA but I deemed that to be too risky. If anything slips, I’m screwed. I’ve got a pre-order at Sammy’s in LA now and one at home and I can back out of Sammy’s if the Canadian pre-order comes through first. I’ll be in Europe next week and maybe I can pick one up there? Does anyone know what the Euro pricing is?
I’m curious why you don’t deal with Sammy’s... tax?
I expect them to have a ton of stock available on release day as the camera is largely a collection of existing parts.

I wonder if anyone has tested the best performing card storage scheme on the a9... for those that don’t need backups is it faster to just use the UHS-II card to write both a RAW and JPEG or is it faster to write the JPEG to the slow card. I guess it depends if the camera can write to both cards simultaneously or not.

Pricing in France is 3500€ including VAT (list price), which is around 2850€ without VAT. It is quite common to find Sony products at less than full list, but maybe less so in the very first days of a hot new product.

Ok thanks... That's about $200 more in CAD than it is here after conversion (assuming I don't need to pay the VAT). A fair trade to get one a couple of weeks early if I can find one in Europe next week.
