I bought the VM version to use with the new Techart adapter. I'll probably sell my Sony version, though I'll miss the EXIF. I already noticed that the VM build is more prone to flare without a hood since the front element is more exposed. I'll be comparing the bokeh/corner differences too, though from the handful of shots I've taken, the difference seems not something I'll notice in actual use. Either copy of this lens takes beautiful images
I can appreciate you sharing your experiences with all this. I personally didn't go for the Techart adapter for my M mount adapter. Maybe somewhere in the future when the euro gets a bit stronger vs the dollar.
I'm very curious to read your experiences as a CV40 owner!
Got my first copy (albeit for Z) after many years of deliberation, curious if you guys and gals see quite a bit of CA with it wide open in sunlight. I've been waiting to pair this lens with an e-shutter camera capable of very fast shutter speeds so I can essentially use it wide open in all conditions. Notice the lettering on the building is completely fringed.
I should also note that I typically shoot slower zooms and not faster primes, so maybe this is common and I just need to tamper my expectations of shooting wide open.
I'm also curious if adding a mist filter might dampen the CA (was planning on doing it regardless, but seems like some folks in here are doing it too).

CA is quite normal at f/1.2. It's not as bad at 1.4 or 1.7 though. I find it easily correctable in Lightroom, and often embrace it as part of the look.
I didn't get my Mist filter to reduce CA. I'll have to look through my photos to see if it makes a difference. I'm going out tomorrow night and will probably take the CV40 with me.
I actually started following a guy on Flickr just the other day that's using a CV40 on a Nikon Z6 and shoots almost exclusively wide open. It's fun to see these developments.
Appreciate the quick feedback Alan. I have a mist filter glued to my X100 and love the effect.

If you've followed the Techart review thread, you'll know that the AF tracking only works well within a square central area of the sensor with most lenses. Unfortunately, that is the case with the CV40 as well. It's pretty decent at Eye-AF within that area though.

Here's some photos from last night to inspect for you guys. This is all show at or below f/2 and with the Tiffen Pro Mist 1/4 filter.
The last shot has the most CA and that was shot at f/1.2. Interestingly enough in some of the pictures you can see the sunstars going through the mist effect

But seriously that Voigtlander 40mm f/1.2 renders so magically, and the manual focus experience is magnified with the special build quality. It is addictive. Then you find out that there is a whole collection of such optical, and tactile magic in amazingly small lenses built for the Leica M system All this is magnified by the Leica M camera build, and simplicity of operation. The range finder focusing has been perfected in the Leica M cameras and is just a wonderful way to make images. It ends up having a profound impact in how you see, and take images, that enhance your experience and enjoyment. It is a drug.
C'mon kid just try it, you are going to love it. The first dose is on me....

Do you use a protective filter when shooting at the beach, or do you find Cosina's coatings on the 40mm/1.2 stand up well to salt spray?
On the lenses that I care about I use B+W or Hoya UV filters. This one has a B+W on it.
