Digging the ducks, a bierd I haven't explored to any degree yet.
The one where many appear to be racing is quite special-the fluidity of the green and the reflections.
Well I met the MC-11 today. Nothing big moving though I waited on them for 2 hours
I won't get to taste BIF with it until we reach St. Marys and the Gannet colony-if we get there. It's a long drive
But I did get to fart and scratch in the backyard, hoping from one focal distance to another and I have to say the MC-11 is ahead of the MB V T 0.58. There is what I'd mentally measure as a 1/10 second acquisition time. One one or two occasions I'd get the hunt for red October hesitation but less so than with the MB V.
If I owned the MC-11 I wouldn't not get the MB V at this time. And if I can BIF (larger bierds) with the MB I have no doubt with the MC-11.....and I didn't realize until looking at EXIF now as I type that I had the 1.4TCiii on the DOii.
Firmware updated right out of the box. Took a couple min's to find the downloader then pieces of cakes.
Still taking both to the rock for side by side.
For perched bierds either are fine, but again the nod, and a strong nod to Sigma....for the moment. I'm sure MB pinheads are cranking wheels.
One thing to note. Bluebird 560mm 1/80 second hand-held. In body IS is a good thing eh

Thanks for the update...saves me some money for now. Now that I've gotten used to the few limitations it has, I've been more and more happy using the 400DOII with the MC-11 on the A9. Also adapting my wider lenses and my 100L macro has been great. This has given my Canon lenses some new life and I'm now seriously considering selling my 1DX2 while the used prices are still decent. That would leave me with a lot of Canon glass and no Canon body Hard to imagine it would come to that looking back a year ago...

You guys have obviously mastered this camera! Can I ask a couple questions on this thread?
I have been using Canon gear for 2 weeks a year since 2003 and not much more than that. It's really too heavy for me now and some of my photo trip friends have started shooting with the Olympus EM1 Mark 2. I started reading about that camera but the A9 has really caught my eye. I have a trip planned in 2 weeks (Vietnam) and am wondering if it's possible to learn how to use the A9 in that short amount of time. I will be super busy at work trying to get everything done before I leave so it's even less time.
Do y'all think the adapters work well with Canon lenses? Seems like I read in some posts on this long thread that they work well and in other posts it sounds like they "hunt". I do want it to focus fast. If I get an adapter I would probably use the 70-200 2.8 II. Or will it be better to get a Sony lens? Thanks for letting me butt in here. https://www.flickr.com/photos/50990013@N04/...Show more →
I think you can learn it in a short time. I had it up and running in a couple days to how I like it and only made a few small changes to the custom buttons since then. That said, I'm always a little cautious learning an entire new camera right before a trip...I suppose the 12+ hr flight to Asia might give you time to get acquainted with it
The Sony lenses are better...AF is instant. However, the adapted Canon lenses (I use the MC-11 Sigma) work very well also. They only start getting into trouble with large changes in focus distance. But that is more with the telephotos and with my adapted 24-70/4 and 16-35/4 they are as good as I really need...the only reason I may consider a native normal FE zoom is to reduce the size a bit more when travelling. I don't have my 70-200/2.8 Canon lens anymore so I can't say specifically how that lens does but my 100-400II Canon lens does very well.
Read MM"s report on the MC-11 vs MB V just above for more information...
A big thanks to the American Robins who led me to this napping Barred Owl yesterday after I left the ducklings...I can't believe the owl can still nap with 3 Robins squawking in it's ear.

^outstanding Tanager work.
I'd be fine with that flight shot
Thanks...I think I nailed him this morning in flight with A9 and 100-400GM/1.4 but I had to rush out to work before I could download them...looked okay on the LCD....but I think they are all in "bullet" pose and not with wings out...will post tonight if any good!!
Fun little Western Tanager feeding series at 20FPS....maybe I need 40FPS?? This is five consecutive frames so I guess this all occurred in 1/4 second?? (small possibility this was only at 10FPS but I think I was at 20)
