Where are you getting those photos from and prices? It would be nice to get the sources when you share such info...

Looks like Tech Radar published the news before Sony authorized it with the pictures. Google Cache was quickier than webmasters at Tech Radar...

Nice to see the 16-35 2.8 finally, I'll stick with my f4 but it's still good to see more pro lenses. That 12-24 caught me by surprise though! Looks quite compact for the specs

can we agree now to set up 2 threads once the 16-35 GM is officially announced:
1) for those who are genuinely interested (and can actually see themselves spending $2200 and/or carrying that big/heavy of a lens) and want to investigate it's features/specs
2) for those who will never pay that much money and/or never carry that big/heavy of a lens and just want to gripe and talk about how they have a 10yr old lens from some other mfg that weighs 1/4 of this one and "still does a great job" - or "my f/4 is all i need in this focal length range" - maybe we can just copy/paste all the std comments from the usual suspects who come out to whine every time a big/expensive lens is released.

Now this is an exciting development!
I have the 16-35, and am pretty happy with it, as I think I have a decent copy. However, I also have the 24-70GM and prefer that lens for any FL over 24mm, so a 12-24mm could fit very nicely with that lens and cover the wider end better possibly (depending on the performance, of course).
If this lens performs as well as the 16-35 at the wide end, it looks to be a really great option for ultra wide. I'd sell the 16-35 and get that one pretty quickly. The difficult decision comes if it isn't up to the performance of the 16-35 f4.
I wonder how quickly I can get it? I'll be heading to Iceland in August, and if reports are positive, I'l commit to it to be on the preorder list.

Semi interested in both but I have some really nice primes now that are perfectly centered and such. CV12, Batis 18mm, than I have the Sigma 24-35 F2. Just have to see how they test out when released but certainly some good choices by Sony. But they still need to develop the long stuff from 135 up

Without knowing the details and how they will perform, I am definitely leaning towards the 12-24mm lens from the FL point of view. My 24-70 GM performs just fine from 24-35mm and a smallish 12-24mm would be a great addition to the GM. At that FL range, an f/4 would work.

Exactly my thinking...
It'd be nice to be able to use filters on it, though. From the photos, I don't think that will be possible. The hood looks fixed, but there is not a large front element bulging out it doesn't appear.
I have a 100mm square filter set, but I'd guess I'd need the 150mm to be able to use them on the lens in the wide setting.

16-35/ 2.8 GM and 24-70 2.8GM are my dream kit, unfortunately they are too expensive! I guess I have to keep using my Batis 25 and Sony 55/1.8, 85/1.8 FE.

The 12-24 looks very interesting. It's size seems smaller than the Sigma. Might make a great lens for travel. Need to wait for images to justify the price.
