How are y'all finding this lens sharpness wise? I dislike the rendering of the Sigma art 35 f1.4, but if this lens isn't at least as sharp as the FX 35 f1.8g then I'll prob just keep my f1.8g

The 35/1.4G is an excellent lens in how it renders. Ideally suited for weddings and people photography. Personally I love the 35 Art but again this me I have some good friends who absolutely love the 35/1.4G as they do many events/weddings.

Sharpness is good, CA's are on the high side wide open but easily corrected in post. The Sigma Art is a tad sharper but like you I didn't like the rendering, so I exchanged it for the 35G. Very happy with it. It's not perfect, but renders really nice.
Merci David! I really don't understand why we see so few posts from this lens, I think its rendering is just beautiful. CAs maybe a bit high wide open, but nothing that can't be corrected in post.
So pleased to find this thread. I'm in the market for a 35mm lens for Nikon. I already own the 85mm 1.4G, which I love, and I've been thinking to get a wide equivalent for my second body at weddings. I've read several reviews online, and most suggest that this lens is unusably soft at large apertures. Good to see some real world pictures shot at f1.4, which to my eyes look perfectly sharp, and with the Nikon look which should complement the 85 1.4 perfectly.
Many thanks to all the posters!

Buy it. You will not be disappointed. It's sharper than the original 35L but not as sharp as the 35L II. I loved the 35G when I had my D3s and D750's
As I said in the 58mm 1.4g, I went full Haruo Sato and have no regrets ( Sold Z 35 /50 /85mm lenses, they are really really great. But for people photography ,where ultimate detail is not required, the old 1.4g lenses are just unbeatable). Saves me some adjustments in post!
Wide open sharpness is great while having probably the best rendering of all 35mm's I am in heaven.

You are right! Absolutely right! The same thing! Sharpness is not the main ingredient of best images!

Your results speak volumes. Lovely shots.
You are correct, most portraiture does not require absolute sharpness but does require great bokeh etc.
