We here in the east don't usually think if the Pacific Northwest as a fall color destination. But a business trip pulled me away from the eastern display in the middle of October, and I was pleasantly surprised to find a worthy substitute in the North Cascades National Park area. It was, of course, raining most of the time I was there, but the interplay of copious water, wispy clouds and steep slopes added to the drama. Who needs bluebird days!?

5. A hike up to Maple Pass in 2 to 3 feet of early snow. I lost the trail in the snow below the pass, but I made it up to where the larches live. From what I understand, they usually turn and lose their needles before significant snow, and no one else was hiking to this elevation under these conditions, so this is a fairly unique view.

I have a few more that didn't make the five-image cut, which I may post later.
Comments and suggestions welcome.
