We here in the east don't usually think if the Pacific Northwest as a fall color destination. But a business trip pulled me away from the eastern display in the middle of October, and I was pleasantly surprised to find a worthy substitute in the North Cascades National Park area. It was, of course, raining most of the time I was there, but the interplay of copious water, wispy clouds and steep slopes added to the drama. Who needs bluebird days!?

Very nice. I like your first and third images, especially the third one. I know just where that third image is taken and have several versions without the fall colors. Your take is very nice!

Thanks, Jonathan, tntcorp, Keith, Jred, Junglialoh, Dustin, Brian and Kevin. It really was an unexpected privilege to shoot fall colors in the Cascades, and have the weather provide additional context.

Thank you very much, Dale and Gregg. It really was a beautiful winter scene up there and I'm fortunate I was able to get up there and come away with something representative. For what its worth, here is a panorama that I made with my cell phone from the same area. It''s not bad quality for a cell phone, but I'm kicking myself for not doing one with my "real" camera at the same time. http://www.pbase.com/dsjtecserv/image/164576557/original.jpg

Thanks, Don and Dave. I think the fact that it was a panorama gave the cell phone a boost it would not otherwise have. Even so, it wouldn't stand up to enlargement like one taken with a larger sensor would. Glad I got something from the viewpoint, though.
