Don't you need the hood cut off to do this

I am still deciding if I am sending my new 15/4.5III E to SK Grimes or to Guy's lab.
The end result will be the same but Guy's work is more 'artistic'.

Here is a sample from the Sierras. I took my 24-70GM and had a blast.
It's a good example where a zoom is very helpful to get all 42MP from the A7RII. I could not move too much from this location and used the zoom for precise composition without any significant cropping in post.

Sony A7RII
FE 24-70/2.8GM
40mm
f/8, 4s, ISO 100

Believe it or not, I was blessed with such scene. Not much post-processing for this one. Love the rendering from this lens.

I remember Fred's 55mm FE shot of the same place. This is almost as awesome although I liked the moonlight even more. Zoom renders fine details very well.

Thanks guys!
Here is another one from the same location a few moments later.
The power of the zoom is that we can go from 40mm to 30mm in a couple seconds.

Yes, that night was magical. I really enjoyed shooting at this location. This was my second time here.
The image you referred was shot with the FE 55/1.8 almost wide open (ISO 640). For those who have not seen it, here is the link:

Did you buy my lens? I remember selling it here and regretting it very much.
The GM version is even better.

No - just curious. I'm on the fence of getting this or adapting a 24-70 2.8II. I know you loved that lens so if you like this one better that pretty much seals the deal for me.

I personally never seen a better zoom myself. I can't speak for canons but no question I want to have native glass. The MB as it stands today is a half baked solution. It's not so much the detail from it but how it renders. Take Fred's great shot above, that shot is all about the feel or look of it. To me that's the money shot when you can render a scene that nice. That's my take on this zoom. It's just about perfect.

Both the Metabones and LA-EA3 are so tantalizingly close to what they need to be, it is intensely frustrating to me.

I agree the LA-e3 and MB is a great solution for canon and A mount users but it's just not there but if you can get to native with such optical performance we are seeing in both these GM lenses than I think it's worth getting there. I know that's money and a lot of it but if your committed to the Sony system it's the best option. I know I spent 4 grand within a week and like many not a easy task to pull off but I'm thrilled with the results and I can honestly sit here and say I really don't need a prime between the 21 and 85 even though I want one for just more for backup or just running out the door and don't want to take the zoom. Point being I'm not forced to buy anything and with this system the last 2 years I have been desperately trying to find my kit that works for me.Honestly I never thought it would be a zoom to do it but this lens had completely changed my opinion on mid zone zooms which I never liked. I guess a new day a new way. So my bottom line advice and believe me I don't make 1 cent saying this at all, I'm just here to help folks and share but find a way to buy these 2 lenses, they are some of the best lenses I have seen and I seen my share of them.

My buddy and I tested the 24-70mm 2.8 and 85mm 1.4. I will only speak of the 24-70mm on this thread. We tested it against following lenses... 21mm Loxia, 25mm Batis, 50mm Loxia, 90mm Sony Maco, 85mm Otus... We tested it in a lot of cityscape. I did get a chance to shoot about 8 portraits with it from a random lovely model that was working with another photographer, insane sharpness wide open! I tested the autofocus shooting some pigeons, wow! Autofocus is great! At 24mm it was better than my Batis so the Batis will be sold! the loxia 50mm and 21mm beat the 24-70mm. 90mm it was very close!
