Yes my wife's assistant is the great great granddaughter of Frank Lloyd Wright and her mom and my Nancy have been friends for years. Unbelievable property. They are going to to do a complete renovation soon here . I was there last night for some friends private tour. Built 1951

Very similar results to what we saw with the infinity tests (first page). Basically, the FE 24-70GM is excellent center to corners at 24-28mm. It's very good from 35-50mm and at 70mm there is slight resolution penalty. (center and corners).
70mm, its achilles heel, seems to needs f/3.2 or f/4 for match the excellent wide range performance in the center and f/6.3-f/8 for the very corners.
From my tests, lensrentals and yours, I think the 24-70GM is a very strong performer wide open to the very corners (with the exception of 70mm) but the sweet spot for optimum center micro contrast and very good corners is f/5.6. At f/8 it's almost as good as the best primes I've tested.
The lens rendering and bokeh quality are very special and something I've never seen from a mid-range zoom. Heck, it draws better than many native primes.

you guys are absolutely killing me - i never in a million years wanted to lug around the 85/1.4 GM - but i just listed my Batis 85 - D@MN YOU ALL.(this GM rendering may be worth it; if the zoom is looking this good, the prime could be worth its weight penalty)
frankly, all this discussion of 24-70 zoom vs primes in this range is not for me - what i would like to see is a GM zoom at the wide end - e.g. 16-35 or 14-24 f/2.8, then keep the 35, 55, 85 primes. done.

Private tours are the best! I've been in several Wright homes before, but sadly many don't allow photos.

Agree Fred between the 3 of us we put the pieces to this puzzle together nicely. I'm astonished at the 24mm setting you could almost shoot this wide open across the field. That's amazing for a zoom and the 28 and 35 are just so strong. 50 is very good as well but again I think I would prefer the Loxia 50 but I don't want anyone to get that comment wrong this is just me being very anal about this stuff and Fred seems the same way . 50 is very good on this zoom. On center this lens is killer at every focal length. I also agree on the 70 as it really jumped big time from 2.8 to F4 in center and corners need to be stopped down. Even though it very good at these setting its the weaker focal length. For me I would be reaching for my GM 85 here anyway. Interesting the shot at 70mm at 4.5 of the overlook of that mansion. 1200 square feet on sale for 2.2 million which is pretty good for Sedona anyway that image is very crisp on building and the mountains look dang sharp to in the background.
But the lens rendering really makes this lens very special. Totally agree I never seen anything like this in a zoom for that alone it's worth every cent we pay for it. Some primes are really going to have a hard time keeping up with this zoom. I do want my Loxia 50 back and not sure I need anything else, unless I could find cheap Leica 28 R version II . Anyway great job Fred on your end I do love how you do the infinity postings and I find that very useful to me. Next up GM 85 and I will be starting that soon. I do hope all of this data dump has helped some folks make some smart buy decisions either way. But if you do buy use Fred's links.

Right now I'm going to try and fix that bug I mentioned earlier on and also figure out my custom hood better. I still don't know if shooting Raw with distortion correction set in camera has any effect on viewing. Not the file itself but I'm hoping I can at least view the correction. Not sure it works like that. Any advice would be helpful

Some of us were previous medium format and SLRs shooters and this lens size/weight is no problem. However, I think many won't get the 24-70GM just because of its size.
Resolution, contrast and rendering are all there though.
I am getting the 85GM today but won't get back in town to test it untill Sunday.

Fingers crossed we both get good copies of the 85. Yes folks have to decide this weight/size scenario if it is worth it to them and many ways to look at it. I am not weight /size sensitive at all coming from my past so I try to be careful on this subject but bottom line for me as a working Pro is I'm getting paid good money to bust my butt for clients so I never whine about it. Lol

This is exactly it for me . . . size. I decided that I invested into this system to reduce size and weight. I found the FE 35/1.4 just too big and went to the Loxia 35/2 and CV 35/1.7. I love the smaller sized lenses. I know I might feel differently if I had the GM zoom in hand and witnessed all it's glory but I'll hold off for now.

Totally valid reasons as sometimes I want to be light weight as well. I could really run out the door with 15,21,50 and my 85 and still be very light weight
