dbl OT - it'd also be nice to be able to have Peaking settings by magnification level - eg. off at 1x, on for 5x and off for 12x (at no zoom, i like to compose w/o distraction, at max zoom, i like to see the detail w/o distraction, but peaking is useful at 5x)
As you can see without lens profile applied a little heavy vignette in the extreme corner and with lens profile that goes away and it also crops a little. But the lens profile is very good and straightens out the distortion. This was in Capture One and bot GM lens have profiles built in.
I should probably turn the lens profile on in camera even though it does nothing to the raw but it will make the framing correct. Does that sound right, i know in camera now its off

I will be in Mammoth Lakes until Saturday. (Had to extend my trip in order to get some clouds on this sky!)
If you have some time to spare, I would recommend you going to Travertine hot springs during the week. If you are lucky and there is nobody around you can take some pictures of the springs with the Sierras in the background while soaking in a hot spring...

I may have found a bug. On 12.5 magnification at 24mm sometimes it won't hold and goes back to full frame viewing . Happened at 70 too.
Now this is in manual focus mode and I need to check my camera I have C1 to magnify but the lens also is set to that. Maybe the lens focus hold does not like it set to magnify instead. Not sure have to play around . But makes me wonder what that firmware update was about. Anyone run into this please report. I'm going to try a few settings and see if it's some kind of electronic crosstalk or something. Not panic mode either. I'm keeping the lens...Show more →
I'm not able to replicate this Guy.
If I set the lens to MF (or do it in camera), and magnify to 12.5x using the custom C1 button, the magnification holds. (I tried for 5 minutes)
This was for 24mm or any other FL.

Great Thanks Fred. It maybe how i have the focus hold setup to magnify. Im going to turn that off and that might be the culprit

There have been several comments on various fora about how the Sony 24-70 GM compares to the Canon Mk II.
I had the MkII as well as the first Canon version. I also have the Sony F4 so I went back through my Lightroom catalogs for the last few years and collected some sample images and put them into galleries HERE.
As I was doing the collecting I realized that all 4 of the lenses perform. The Canon MK II I owned was an outstanding lens. My early impression of the Sony GM is that its an outstanding lens as well. My Zony F4 is sitting here on my desk trying to convince me on to put it up for sale. Its delivers nice images, its small but I can't justify keeping it just because its small.

I'm anxiously waiting for a side by side with the GM and the Batis 25mm and/or Sony 35mm 2.8.
I did a quick comparison yesterday and was surprised to find the GM noticeably sharper than the Batis in the center at ƒ2.8. Corners were slightly better on the Batis, but still excellent on the GM. From 4.0 onward, the GM is at least as good as the Batis.

If I can find my Batis 25 test I will show that as well. I'll be posting my big bronco wall test Thursday and yes I should not even admit to this I owned just about every damn lens out there. I try not to think about this too much. Lol

I would venture to say this is pretty accurate from memory.
