This gentleman got a 1DX2 today in India. He said it is a 'sample' though neither the box nor the body seem to have anything suggesting 'sample'. He is or used to be a Canon brand ambassador. I don't know him beyond what I have seen on his web site. http://www.sudhirshivaram.com/

Thank you for that info, Mark.
I think it is in everybody's best interest that the production cameras work (e.g. focus) right, and if they have to delay the deliveries in order to ensure that, so be it.
Canon probably knows that there are many 1DXII buyers around the world who will not reflexively sing praises to it, but who will collectively test its AF feature to death perhaps more critically than what the Canon's own field test program might have been.
It is good to keep in mind that the first batches will be small in numbers and pushed quickly to the most eligible photographers, so Canon can get some good rep on the 1Dx2, as has been said above. Canon will have their in-company share of new bodies, which will be issued to photographers covering the European football cup in France (june 2016). Then after that there are the olympics in Rio. Loaners/demos for the "ordinary' CPS members are not canons primary interest so they won't be available until stock is substantial, which will probably be a couple of months after the first batch.

Canon is delusional if they think a small number of paid off photographers will get them good rep. It's seen for what it is and that is 100% marketing. Sadly, I don't see any Rob Galbraiths out there anymore. Most of those "eligible" photographers are more interested in keeping their "special preview" status then giving a totally objective view.
Yes I know. It seems all too easy to think a camera can produce good images, while it is the photographer who can make a good image. Canon may be delusional but I am certain that lots of folks get lured into non objective tests. "Buy this camera and your images will improve".
But that is how it is and we will just have to see what emerges in the next couple of weeks and make our own decisions.

I suspect most of these people are actually more interested in using the new camera to do their jobs, i.e., take photos...

Why would anyone expect the 1DX II to be problematic? Are you concerned just because it is a new body?
Unboxing video. Has Sample sticker on it, but it looks production not prototype. Compared to the generic box Martinka guy who posted the raw pix last month.

Always concerned with new bodies. They have no track record. We were told the 1D3 would be great as well and look what happened. I like Canon gear and have quite a bit of it but I don't blindly follow them either.

Any issues with 1DX? I had none with 5DSR, 5D3, 5D2, 5D, 20D, XTi.

I've never had issues with the 1DX. Only Canon I've had issues with is the 7D2. However, we must not forget that 1DX had massive recall for potential AF issue from debris getting onto AF sensor on initial release.

The people getting these units are still being told they aren't production but as you say they are most likely exactly what will ship to consumers at the end of April. The box is the consumer box. Sample just means these guys may have to go buy there own next month and send these ones back.
I'm always surprised that people actually believe there are going to be changes to the RAW image files from a pre-production to production model. Sure some FW updates may occur before release and maybe JPEGs will be altered but unless there is some fatal flaw in the sensor, I doubt they tweak the RAW output between samples and release.

the second video I posted above said it will be released end of this month, March. That's what my dealer had said last month, but I didn't believe her.
